Okay, I've heard about this, but I've never really seen any posts on exactly what to do. On Todd's site, he says to cut a hole the size of a quarter into the pad. What should I use to do this?

Also, will this decrease the harshness of these phones. Literally, jazz and soft rock/folk are the only types of music that I can listen to on these, other wise I have to take them off in like 5 minutes (they do a serious number on my ears).

Any suggestions?

Just use a knife. It's not difficult to do, and it's not really prone to mess-ups unless you make stupid mistakes in doing it.

Secondly, it will only increase the harshness, unfortunately. I've found that a good burn-in will do wonders for decreasing harshness, though. You should put them at a volume slightly higher than what you usually listen to, and leave them playing music for a day or two straight. That will do a good burn in.

If it only increases harshness, then why do folks do it?

They think it doesn't have enough highs in the first place and needs more.

Many people think the 60 w/ comfy should not be modded. The higher end grados are said to sound somewhat different.
