Grado 225 or 325

Maybe that high honky noise has to do with the amp you're using? I'm using a Cha47 and I don't notice any sharp high end. It seems very smooth, in fact. Not in a bad way. Very controlled.

Actually, that honky noise isn't noticeable - until you listen to the 325's after you've listened to the 225's, on the very same amp.

well, technically the longer chamber should allow for a stronger resonance - and that plus the shiny aluminum material probably accounts for the honky sound and the sharp highs? (and perhaps also the tighter bass?)

the RS series probably has less of the honky sound due to the wooden material, much more porous and dampening (vibration) thus creating less of the resonance effect as well as the honky sound...?

just some of my theories...?

I really like my old SR325. Solid metal casing and beautiful built. However, I can understand if people like the SR225 more because it's lighter.

The «squawking» sound may be caused by the hump in the upper midrange at 2-2.3 kHz.

Both the SR-325 and the RS-1 (and -2) have it, and with both I noticed this same timbre I didn't like. Note that the SR-225 doesn't suffer from it (but from a slight lack of upper mids instead); it may be coupled to the deeper «resonance» chamber - which indeed seems to cause sort of resonance. It has the unpleasant property to mask some of the high-frequency details, although high frequencies are very well represented. In the case of the SR-325 I perceive them as slightly metallic, not necessarily sharp or harsh though.

MAKE SURE YOUR TRY OUT THE music series 2 version of the sr 325's (go to alessandro-products.com) i'm getting them... i don't think there are any high end headphone stores in the dallas tx area.. so i'm screwed for trying them out.
oh.. adn the music series 2's are supposed to be more "audiologica" (i think that means more neutral).

Has anyone done an A-B comparison between the "Music Series" aluminum-chambered Grados (the "MS" version of the SR-325, it looks like), and the "stock" 325s? I wonder if there is any significant sound difference.
