can anyone tell me if it is worth the extra money going to the Grado 225 over the 125 when using it exclusively through the headphone output on a Sony portable CD player? Thanks for any help you can offer.

based on what i read here, it depends on what cd player it's comming out of....but for the possibility of upgrading the source, just go with the 225's

If it's a current Sony CD player, I wouldn't even bother with the Grados at all. No power to make them sound good at all. I tried Grados out of my Sony DE-J825. Didn't sound that good at all, and the sound distorted if you brougth the volume up above 8/30.
