When did that happen? I've always avoided Digi-Key for small orders because of that.
Yeah, I love that Digikey offers First Class Mail as an option. It's usually faster than UPS/FedEx in my experience, and only a couple bucks. I don't feel bad placing small, even $3 orders because I won't have to pay $7 shipping. That's smart business.
I thought Mouser used to offer that too, but now their cheapest option is Priority Mail.

As for power caps, there's nothing better than DigiKey's Panasonic FM's throughout the line, while DigKey's Panasonic FC's have long been a favorite of the re-capping DIY crowd. There are easily the equal of Nichicon UPW's at Mouser.
I sort of agree with you on films, since Mouser has Wima's and Roedersteins.
Agreed TomB...although Silmic II's can be had from digikey the selection is really small and some of the popular sizes are perpetually out of stock (with 3 month + lead times). The lowest V rating they carry is 25V and in some sizes 35V which makes life difficult if you are working on a tight board with limited space. I do like the Silmic II's but prefer OS-CON for DAC chip PSU sections. Highly specific applications for each section is what I like to do...stopping short of BG unless the values and cost are small (like BG NX Hi-Q .1uf 50V caps for bypass work)
I really like Panasonic FM and FC...but I much prefer using Nichicon FG/KG/Muse and if I have to, PW and HE in power supply filter banks. The key does have some decent film caps, Vishay/BC Component and Epcos, but the nicer stuff you mention is not available.....I must say they have quite a great selection of Vishay resistors and the Dale types if that is your preference. NOS film caps are also a great value when you can get them in quantity for reasonable cost.
I wonder if the lack of FG/MUSE/Cerafine and other top shelf brands production runs are all spoken for in the Far East ? Must be since I can get just about anything I want from HK or Japan but it'll cost me quite a bit more and take substantially longer to arrive.
One place I've found state side is Handmade Electronics...they have a great selection of high end stuff for reasonable cost although Canadian orders are a 100US min before shipping. I have placed large orders with them before with the service, packaging and product first rate.

Send a ~15$ order yesterday and no handling fees were applied. Paid flat 8$CDN for shipping. That's much better than my last Mouser order (18$US shipping) that took almost 2 weeks to get ot my door. I must admit I didn't order from Mouser since a couple of months, maybe they have adjusted their shipping/pricing policy to Canada.
BTW, I noticed that Digikey now seems to carry Vishay/Dales RN55D
! Just search for CMF family and 0.25W. I ordered 2.49K and seems Digikey keep most values between 10R and 500K.

Since when Digikey carry RN55D resistors?
I just ordered from mouser a couple of weeks ago. Everything was in canadian dollars and the shipping was $8 (forget what I used, it was the cheapest option). Though they shipped from TX so it took over a week.

At least a year or so, when I noticed them available. I've ordered them many times now. They are technically not RN55 series as CMF55 is the commercial variant, but physically they're identical. As far as I can tell the only difference is the specification.

I received my Digikey order and just to add that you should select 1/2 Watt instead of 1/4 Watt filter when searching @ Digikey website. The 1/4W are the black/dark blue CMF50 series and not the usual brown CMF55/RN55D.

That's good news.
Now WIMA caps and Nichicon KZ won't cost me insane shipping price next time...

"Vishay Dale Model CMF is also available as Military Qualified Styles RN and RL. See appropriate catalog or web page for the
MIL-SPEC ratings/attributes. (Except for marking, the Industrial and Military versions are exactly the same. Depending upon
stock, military marked parts may be supplied as industrial rated parts)."

It happened within the last few months. One of our EEs here went to place an order and came over asking me if she made an error on her order. So, I looked it over and saw the handling fee was missing. A short call to Digikey confirmed the end of the $25.00 minimum handling fee. What a happy day that was.
I used to be a big fan of Digikey years ago. But in the last few months as I started buying again, I noticed that not only their prices are rather obscene compared to Mouser but they are now shipping with dreaded UPS instead of friendly Purolator. Not only that but Mouser is now cheaper, better stocked and ships with FedEx and even has free shipping for > $200 orders; any of their orders now essentially arrive the next day. A huge change from years ago. Their search is nicer too, with the ability to see pictures of products right in the list instead of having to look at each individually at Digikey.
