A part snapped during my build last friday, late afternoon. I swung by a local store who didn't have the exact part I needed. I get home, place an order for a single $1.25 part at 6pm EST, shipped via USPS First Class for $2.02.

Well it arrived this morning, expertly packaged, no extra handling charges, no minimum orders, etc. Even though my order was beyond tiny, they handled it with care and speed. Couldn't ask for more.

Anyway, just wanted to post somewhere to thank em and say how impressed I was. I don't plan to make such small orders in the future, but when your in a bind its good to know you can get small orders without a hassle.

Yes, I like the stuff they use for wrapping items inside boxes. Once upon a time they used biodegradable packing peanuts made from starch (actually dissolves in water and is even edible). That was weird but cool.

You are lucky to live there, this level of service does not exist here. And not only for Digikey, but also the USPS which managed to deliver a package in one working day.

While I'm still waiting for a Mouser order I placed 10 days ago, since Mouser for some reason decided to shorten my (admittedly long) last name, so when FedEx attempted delivery they did not find anybody matching the recipient and brought the package back to their warehouse.

When I'm homeless and looking for food... I'll know what to do...

Up in Canada we get charged $8 flat for shipping so it kind of kills $2 orders but it still always arrives within a day or two.

Sorry to threadjack but,
Environlentally friendly packaging still polutes the world much more than it can handle!!!!

The minimum order being gone is great though...

I wish digikey stocked better quality caps...like Elna Cerafine, Nichicon FG/Muse...Rubycon...etc....they have just about everything else so why not the best lines of Elna,Rubycon and Nichicon ?

Their film cap selection is pretty poor as well.I guess you can't have it all.

I have nothing but but praise for their customer service, shipping and packaging though...first rate all the way. The 8 dollar flat fee to Canada is a huge improvement over other suppliers (cough Mouser....).

Peete.

Hmm ... seems to me that DigiKey has had the only true "boutique" electrolytic for awhile, now: the Elna Silmic RFS II. Mouser recently added KZ's, but their offering is sporadic and it's very recent. They have nothing else in regard to electrolytics, AFAIK.

As for power caps, there's nothing better than DigiKey's Panasonic FM's throughout the line, while DigKey's Panasonic FC's have long been a favorite of the re-capping DIY crowd. There are easily the equal of Nichicon UPW's at Mouser.

I sort of agree with you on films, since Mouser has Wima's and Roedersteins.

There's a handling fee too for small orders. But for bigger orders they rock! They always deliver the next day with everything neatly packaged. They are really the only place in Canada for a comprehensive selection of components and small volume (e.g. hobbyist type) orders anyway, as far as I know.

I have had excellent service from Newark in the past. I ordered 25 MIC502 PWM controllers from there and they arrived in 3 days with free shipping. I had heard that Newark was bad about sending the wrong thing. So I tried to order from anywhere else first but no one stocked the MIC502 but Newark.

I have also gotten great service from Digikey. I ordered over $200 worth of various electronic parts from them and everything was perfect. Not one single mistake.

I had great experience with both Digikey and Newark in Canada. Ultra fast - no extra duties and low shipping cost. Newark is an alternative from Mouser for Vishay Dales RN55D.

Still don't know however what are the Newark shipping cost and policy to Canada for small orders.

How about transporting one tiny, individual part hundreds or thousands of miles. This is not environmentally friendly, whatever the packaging.

Of course, I just ordered some opamps totalling under an ounce, so I can't talk.
