The W5000 sounds a bit thin with my RP010 (Utep10 heard it last Friday and he agreed) but the other two woodies I've tried L3000 and W11JPN both sound good.. not magical synergy but it sounds several notches up on my old Headroom Home for sure. HD600/650 have the magic synergy though ;p
I gone through that cycle of asking my wifey and resulted in not getting it. I had to master in the art of ninja upgrading and learn to get punished when discovered...hehehe. No, my wife is good about my hobby situation. Plus, I kind of stopped upgrading these days and just enjoy my music
uh..my wife is kind of opposite of what seem like the 'regular reaction'
My wife has already staked out her ideal speaker setup to go in our 'cough' future high-rise apartment - Sonus Strat (she said she will settle for Amati though) and I can worry about other equipments to make those speaker sound good. ... I said..o..k...time to get a 3rd job now...
she doesn't really care for cans though..but I try to tell her I need to 'learn' and 'train' my ear in preparation for those speaker purchases.
A lot of these posts seem to imply that the partner's objections are just an obstacle to be circumvented, but my wife's inspection of my spending habits actually feeds into the process and has stopped me from wasting money in the past.
Basically, she always lets me spend the money if I am completely certain that I want/"need" the purchase in question, but if there's any wooliness in my argument then she suggests waiting for a cooling-off period. The good thing is: she has really enjoyed and benefited from some of my purchases - even the pricey ones - so really she participates in the entire process.
Proved that despite its huge size the CD3000 can be shoved down one's throat.

Thanks Henry for you kind words, this is areally encouraging post for us...but I feel that you have nothing to thank us, that was your decision and wisdom at the end, who take you to the audio bliss, choosing components wisely is the key, synergy is all about...enjoy it, man...
[size=xx-small]and if in the future you need to upgrade you know where to look now eh???...

And with Sennheisers, AT's, Ultrasones, Beyers, AKGs, Grados, etc...as well...but IIRC the first RP-33 I heard of, the original one, was made for the CD3K Felipe (Nik's twin brother) had at that time. So probably though the really good synergy, later on he had developed it into this new version, the RPX-33 which is a more versatile amp, and "tuning it", you can literally make it good for any headphone, mine was tuned for the Edition 9 and honestly I will not ask for more for long time....
Hello all - just returned from a vacation and time away. I just bought the pleather pads for my W11JPNs and let me tell you the sound out of the RPX-33 has been taken to a new level.
Soundstaging is now as wide as the CD3000s
Bass goes deeper and wider - they now sound like a controlled version of the DT990s
Instrument separation is like a well operated subway system - each item is on its on track and you can hear new details. On a live concert album I can hear someone in the back of the concert hall blow their noise and I can hear another person's cell phone go off (it was set to vibrate).
SERIOUSLY... I just put the pads on (listened to one song) and then checked my E-mail and saw there were posts added to this thread.
