Well after a month I finally got the Nikon D70 Digital SLR camera I wanted! It's a superb astonishing camera and I love it! Expect to see some seriously high quality photos in my reviews from this point forward.

congrats. the D70 is a great camera, and truly impressive at its price point. i highly recommend shooting in raw, and picking up photoshop cs for conversion (be sure to update the raw plugin from the adobe website too). nikon also has some incredible glass, and there's a whole world choices to go with, depending on what you want to shoot. i really like the 50mm f/1.4, but i'm really into primes and everybody seems to just love their zooms lately.

this was taken with nikkor's 105mm macro, available light (and through a screened enclosure):

The D70 is a great camera - I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

I'm saving up for a Canon 20D (I just prefer the way Canons fit the hand(s)). And a few more L lenses. And a better tripod. And a nice ballhead. And...

Photography is an expensive hobby!

Thanks guys!

Yeah it sure is expensive. I have been looking at a few filters to purchase for the D70. It all adds up!

Nice. I bought a Digital Rebel last month and have been enjoying using a digital camera that actually behaves like a real camera.

I also picked up Canon's 50mm f1.8 lens -- for it's price, it's incredible.

Don't forget that the under $1000 mark is without a lens.

I hate when they advertise prices without lenses.

I was playing with a Pentax *ist DS, and I just love how it feels. Smaller than the ginormous D70.

But the D70 is easier to use, no having to fumble through a menu for basic settings.

I do love how you can autofocus with the *ist DS, and then start manually focusing without having to flip a switch. Not sure if the D70 can do that, but most SLR's when in autofocus mode, the lens is mechanically locked, and you can't twist it to "tweak" the focus manually without actually physically changing a switch first.

haha i still use my Canon EOS A2, cuz i'm old school like that. my S500 is a nice alternative, but i prefer the feature of the EOS.

Haha, now that you're into DSLR as well, beware that your camera gear will cost most than you audio gears. Take some of the the nice US$1000+ lens for example.

All you have to do is flip the switch "AF - M" to M and you got manual focus.

Heh I know! The camera set me back $2k already for the Outfit kit (with lens), 3 year warrenty and some extras. Can't imagine how much more damage it will do with those $4,000 lens. LOL!

I just bought a Netutral Density Glass Filter today for $65 from Amazon which should be very cool once I get it. These type of filters are the best to buy first I hear. Should be interested.

Actually, on many prosumer SLR lenses (read: more than $250) and nearly all pro lenses there is a feature called full-time manual focusing. Basically, the focus ring is not locked onto the electronic focus, so you can autofocus like normal, and then make focus adjustments manually (without flipping any levers) simply by turning the ring.

That's the reason I haven't bought any audio gear in well over a year. All my extra cash goes to photography.
