... and right out of the box, this sure doesn't sound like RS-1.

When this run in a bit, I'll post my impressions/comparison to RS-1 with tube amps.

Many people trying out these phones, would be really interseting to see everyone's comparison. So far, these phones are compared to Senn, but, not much against RS-1. So, I am curious myself, too.

Why on earth would I do that?

I am curious if they would work with my current set-ups. Changing transducers can upset a lot of things. Probably it requires serious screwing around to get the most out them is my guess.

Do you know how long of runinng-in they need?

It's only gonna be an impression cuz, I can't truley level match between these fones.

Kuma,

i can only guess at your "disappointment". But going from a Grado to any other headphone will likely produce the same emotion.

Listen to the DT880 for a while, then go to the Grado. You should find that you will have just as strong an emotion.

So, you're likely to use the Grado for Rock, mostly, and leave the critical, pleasureable, listening to the DT880.

There's nothing wrong with having more than one headphone.

Yep. listening to different *house flavor* always takes longer. My brain needs to adjust. The difference is not limited to tonal balance or resolving ability. Comparison between various Grado fones were easier.

What I look for in any piece of kit is whether they have a communication skill ( you call it 'emotion'? ) and if so, *how* they do it. That takes longer than assessing *visual* and obvious surface level sonic characteristics, I think.

I am still running them in by playing HD stored files via DAC2. I'll start changing amps and source next week.

I still don't get the fact that RS1 is pigeonholed into rock programme only fones. I found that If a kit is capable of making most mundane music come alive and give 'em a purpose, the most demanding highly well-produced programme benefits even more from this ability, however it does it.

I am hoping that DT880 wil show me a different way from how RS-1 does it as I can hear these two have clearly distinct way for music playback.

At any rate, it's interesting that you've separated 'rock' listening from 'pleasureable' listening.

Hey, I'm not the biggest fan of the Grado sound, but I think the RS1 sound great with a wide variety of music. I was listening to some nice jazz out of a new Creek OBH-21SE over the weekend, and it sounded great!
