First of all, i'll be using an Archos Gmini 402 as the source. These are the contenders:

- Sennheiser PX100
- Koss KSC-35
- Koss Portapro(2)

These headphones are already nice headphones, but I want to step-up. So, I want to know which headhone sounds best after recabling or after replacing the pads? And which cable or pad is used? Is it worth the money if you're not buying an amp?

VR6ofpain sold a Portapro once, recabled and with 414 pads on them. Jahn used a KSC-35 with a 75ohm resistor and a Silver Dragon cable offered by Moon-audio, but then again in combination with an amp. Lisa modded the PX100 with the 414 pads, no recabling though.

So, can you guys give me some tips?

Already asked some more information about the KSC-35 with the Silver Dragon cable and 75 ohm resistor at Moon-Audio. Do you guys think it's the best choice to mod the KSC-35? Or will the PX100 and Portapro sound even better with the same mod..?

why in the world would you consider recabling something that is worth less than the recabling? Simply buy something better - it will cost you less and sound better.

The easy answer is usually some version of Sennheiser HD25, or cheaper, more the rock inclined is Grado Sr60........the neat newcomer is AKG k81 DJ, or better yet is AKG k181DJ - all will cost the same or considerably less than your concept. Whilst I wear Sennheiser HME25-1, the new guy in town (AKG k181DJ) is a very seductive prospect.

Thanks for the tip, the AKG doesn't get a lot of attention on this forum though.. The modded KSC-35 gets credit from many people, maybe it isn't as good as they say?

And by the way, the modded KSC-35 with a 3 feet cable costs 90 dollar (or am I missing something) and the AKG K181DJ and the Sennheiser HD25 both costs around 200 dollar. That's quite a difference!
