What would a good price be for a home-based Meta42 in a hammond enclosure?

Also, would it be a noticeable improvement in sound over a Rotel integrated amplifier?

thanks!

Prices vary depending on what options you get.

Email JMT and he'll give you a very fair and honest quote.

You can also search the for sale forums to see past prices on used ones.

To say if it would be better than the Rotel's headphone out would be hard to say without knowing exactly what's there.

If its a well thought out design (like the Meta) then it might be.
If it was put in as an after thought then it probably isn't.
Do they specifically mention the headphone circuit design in the manual like Cary and Creek do?

I would say that prices should start around $110 with no power supply. Depending how nice it is, it could cost around $300. Also buying from a respected experienced builder is worth $20 to $50 more to me. If you are going high-end you begin to approach PPA/Elpac prices and might consider the jump.

I have a Rotel RA932 - a pretty old amp and it sounds great with speakers but (on mine anyway) the headphone socket is a bit disappointing and somewhat hummy, I bought an old marantz receiver for $50 and my headphone listening with HD580s is much nicer.

Just my 2 UK pennies worth
