Hey guys,

I amp looking for a portable amp for a trip i'm taking in the next couple weeks. I have two cans, the 250 ohm dt800's and the 80 ohm dt770's is there a mid-level amp that would be able to power both of them? right now i'm thinking about at least getting a go-vibe v3 for the 770's but i'd rather just get one amp that can power both sets of cans.

any ideas?

thanks in advance,

scott

The 250 ohms DT990s sound good with my Little Dot Micro+. I never tried any other portable amp, but I think they can all drive them quite easily. The LDM+ is cheap and has a very long life battery (3 months without charging, and it's still ok), so it may be a good solution for you.

Not sure of your price range...the RSA Hornet sounds awesome with both of those headphones.

i really like the hornet but I dont think i can justify the $350 at this point and time. I have a little dot ii+ right now at work and this portable amp will be used mainly when traveling...which isn't very often.

I have tried the LDM+ but didn't care for it's treble response. I think the Practical Devices XM4 sounds good with both, but I have listened to those combos only briefly.

try getting an DAP from cowan (the x5 for example), it has a really beefy headphone section and sounds great. Can drive my DT880s to about 90 Dbs with out a sweat. sounds great at low volumes too. not to mention it will be less expensive than most portable amps. I've run a Go-Vibe V3 with the X5 and to me, the differences are there but not worth lossing money over. You get a little tighter bass and a tad bit more sound stage with the expense of some reccesed mids.

I had the DT-880-250 and paired it with a Go-Vibe V5. On half of my music collection, it performed very well. Those that sounded poor and bass light, I would say was a result of poor recording or the very detailed nature of the 880s.

I currently run the DT-990-250 through the GV and think it's great. A good deal better than the LDM+, which my buddy and I both thought was bass weak compared to GV. Just not enough juice compared to the 9V battery or 24V power adapter.

I've got a desktop Headfive headed my way, but I'm still going to keep the GV for portable and home use.
