Hello everybody. I'm looking for advice or recommendation in regards to a new pair of headphones. I've been using a pair of Superflux HD669 for close to 7 years and the wiring has finally died, resulting in me losing sound in my right cup. I've been happy with my Superflux despite it getting in the way of my glasses and getting extremely humid even during winter. The solution i came up with was to wear a hood and to put my headphones over the top. Not ideal, but very economical.

I'm in the market for a new pair of headphones for FPS Gaming (Overwatch, Counter-strike) and music. (Metal, rock, instrumental and orchestral)
I am looking for a pair of headphones with the following qualities

1. Allow me to pinpoint the source of the sound i hear in game, such as footsteps.
2. Great sound quality when listening to music
3. Comfort when wearing them with glasses.
4. Comfort in a hot/humid environment.

I don't mind if they're closed or open.
I don't usually listen to music with a lot of bass, so i wouldn't mind a lack of bass if it means i can have the above qualities.

Currently, i have set my sights on one of the following:

1. Audio-Technica ATH M40X for $129
2. Sennheiser HD 280 Pro for $139
3. Sony MDR-7506 for $149
(These prices are Australian)

I've read a lot of reviews and comparisons and these three have consistently been at the top for this price-range. They seem to have most if not all of the qualities i'm looking for, but when i searched for reviews for the same headphones but in regards to gaming, they were criticized for having "bad sound stages".

What are your opinions?
Thank you!

Take a look through Mad Lust Envy's gaming headphones guide:  http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-3-18-2016-mrspeakers-ether-c-1-1-added

The CAL! and Audio Technica ATH-AD700x both rate very highly for gaming, and should be in your price range, though the CAL! will be much better for music.  And there may be others listed there that are available for you in Oz.

Basically, any open back headphone will give you good sound stage if you pay around 100 or more for sure. But these kind of headphones give you a nice balance between sound stage and bass as well, with good sound stage you will always hear footsteps in games easily. You don't want to go with closed backs though if you want to hear subtle details in games.

Too simplistic.  Yes, open back headphones tend to have better soundstage, and are generally good for games.  But there are many closed backed headphones that work very nicely for gaming, and some open backed ones that don't.  I never liked my Grado's for games, and they were as open as they come.  Its always a case by case situation.
