Can anyone recommend me some good electric guitar music in the style of Al Di Meola or Steve Vai? I'm looking for some really high quality recordings

Jeff Beck (one classic has been mastered to SACD)
Joe Satriani (last two have been mastered to SACD, and the early ones aren't bad either)
Return to Forever (features Al Di) -- there's a DSD remaster both on SACD and redbook CD
Ozric Tentacles -- just fun, good playing, not sure about fidelity, though

Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien, The Extremist, Flying In A Blue Dream...IMO his early stuff is brilliant, last two or three haven't been that fantastic.

Billy Cobham - Spectrum. just great fusion, with loads of fire-y guitarwork.

if you don't mind acoustic guitar: Bozzio Levin Stevens - Situation Dangerous.

and if you don't mind vocals, King Crimson - Discipline is a blast!

Try a band called Tribal Tech which features Scott Henderson on guitar. I'd recommend either Face First or Reality Check as good first cds. If you like them I highly recommend the Vital Tech Tones, a jazz/rock fusion side project with Henderson, Victor Wooten of the Flecktones (he's one badass bass player) and Steve Smith on drums. They have two cds VTT and VTT2.

Another suggestion is the band Jing Chi featuring Robben Ford on guitar. They have two cds, Jing Chi and Live at Yoshis.

enjoy!

Mahavishnu Orchestra(Great 70's Fusion) with John McLauglin on Guitar. A must if you like Al DiMeola.

Just about anything by Guitarist Allan Holdsworth is great also.

I would get this Yngwie first:

Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force from around 1984 or 1985. Classic stuff.

Also seek out Allan Holdsworth solo or with UK.

Dregs, any of them....
Steve Ray Vaughan (bluessy)
Erick Johnson (subtle but nice)
Tony Macalpine (similar to Yngwie)
Vinnie Moore (same as above)
Neal Schon
Craig Chaquico (NAM)
Zappa
Santana
Katzumi Watanabe (???)

and of course all of the above, Satriani is just marvelous in the recordings, top quality...
