I want to get into this genre but I dont know where to begin. It can be melodic, or fast and brutal.

Why not start at the beginning (more or less)?
Sout-East London, early naughties, evolving out of various jungle genres like dub, grime and 2-step garage.
You could start with guys like Plastician, Kode9 and Digital Mysticz, or just jump straight to 2006 and the show that properly kicked the genre into the mainstream, Mary Anne Hobbs' Dubstep Warz:
