Hi guys, I'm currently trying to make my father a pair of headphones, he likes wooden cans and string instuments specially violins. So I'm just wondering what are the good drivers for these requirements. And the can is about 10.5 cm round, about 4.13 inches. I think it's capable of almost all the drivers in the market. Thanks!

I think the divers of the Fostex T50-RP are very versatile, but the drivers of the Sennheiser HD-25 also fit the bill. How they sound in the end depends very much on their housing. Try experimenting and measuring, no matter what drivers you get for your headphones.
You could also go all out and try to make your own electrostatic drivers. It's not easy (huge understatement), but you could try following in the footsteps of chinsettawong: http://www.head-fi.org/t/498292/my-diy-electrostatic-headphones

Thanks a lot! I'm actually a newbie to the community, just want to get a driver and maybe find someone to help me craft a can. All I can do is put them together... Making my own speaker is way too difficult for me :/ Can you tell me a little bit more about the housing please?? (I'm thinking about a barrel shaped can)

A barrel shaped can seems like a fun idea. It is a customized can, so unless you know how to make finite element calculations and have the tools to make them, I recommend you start with a housing that has sufficient room inside for decent dampening options. You can experiment with different dampening materials and even combinations of several materials. Mounting the driver holder to the housing with a layer of sorbothane in between can help avoid resonances too. You can try making angled drivers to get a better soundstage (sense of space). If that seems too complicated you could get angled ear-pads.
Is your father going to use these headphones outside the house, or are these headphones just meant for home listening? If it's just for home listening, you could also consider making open back headphones. In that case, your driver choice is larger. For example, the drivers of the Sennheiser HD-580, the AKG K701 or the Beyerdynamic DT-880. Of course, these are all great sounding headphones already, but the custom looks would be nice
