For $300, I can get an iRiver iHP-120 and I will get a free $50 gift certificate, which I will use for some EX-71s and maybe a cd or two. For $50 more, I can get etymotic er-6 or shure e2c, but I doubt I'd get one of those because I think the ex-71s will be fine and there is no way I'll be able to explain to my mom that I own $100 earbuds. Just in case I'm able to though, which do you think are better, the shures, or he etys? Anyways, for $300, I can get an iRiver iHP-120, some EX-71s and maybe a cd or two. How is this deal?

why will I regret it? I own Sony MDR-V150s and I'm satisfied with them. Are the EX-71s in any way worse than the MDR-V150s?

The only thing is, my mom will probably not let me get them. To her, she couldn't see how I needed to even spend $20 on the MDR-V150s, let alone paying $50 for the etys.

Also, the etys are on sale for $99.99 (which is why I'm even considering them) and I don't know if I'll have enough money by the time the sale ends. I make about $50 a week, but I'm saving for a car also. I'm willing to spend an extra $50, but only if the etys are truely amazing.

If you're satisfied with your V150s, use the free earbuds with the iRiver.

You're on a headphone site, so you're going to get a lot of encouragement to spend more money on headphones… but seriously if you're going to dish out that much money on the iRiver (after all cheap CDPs can be picked up for $20), you ought to have a pair to take advantage of it. Never heard the EX71s, but I'd get the Etys if you can afford it.

Because of the $50 gift certificate deal from amazon, I might be able to afford the shures or etys.

Let me ask you this, though. Which are better for my needs? I would like isolation, since I ride the bus, and I'm looking for something I can work out with, since I jog on a treadmill. I mainly do weights though, which aren't going to cause any problems with the earbuds.

Also, I like a good amount of bass, but not overpowering, and I want something with a cord that isn't very long, because I don't want to be stuffing it in my pocket.

And lastly, almost all of my mp3s are encoded at 128 kps bitrates and right now its fine, but I've heard that if I purchase much more expensive headphones, I will hear a big difference between 128 kps and 256 kps, etc.

So, which do you think are the best to get?

Keep in mind that I'm not definitely getting one of these, but because of the special deal from amazon, I'm open to one of these two.

Let me ask you something though. Hopefully you have experience with amazon.com

Is this a product sold directly through amazon.com, or is this from sportrus.com?

If this sale price isn't from amazon directly, than the $50 gift certificate won't apply towards the er-6s and they are out of the question anyways.

the iRiver earbuds are pretty nice, actually.

They are basically sennheiser MX300s, although they aren't.

They are made by some company in China or wherever, which probably just disected the MX300 and built their buds off of them.

I was given a pair or two of iRiver stock earbuds. They have "Sennheiser MX300" written on them, which leads me to believe they are indeed Sennheiser MX300s. Maybe they've changed since then though. It was with an iRiver iMP-400.

Sony MDR-E888 - better sound than either the ER-6 or E2C (lol the E2c.. so overrated... like a big expensive EX71)
I don't know if they still sell it in America.
Goodluck with your choice and enjoy your new iHP-120

I have the E888. While the tonal response in mid and high impress me much, but the bass.... sigh. Got to use my hands press on the earphone to get the best bass, but hell I cannot pressing the earphone whole day.

So at the end, I got myself Audio Techinca ATH-EM7, at least i can rest my arms.

my opinion is the free iriver earbud sound better than the $40 ex71.

if you like the sony v150, then obviously you are familiar with the boomy bass. i heard them once. the ex71 do not give any improvement except that it isolate noises. if you are going to buy a more expensive earbuds then obviously you would have to do away with the bloated bass and give in to clarity and balance.

to me the e2c has an improvement over the ex71 like not just night and day, but ......god and the devil. for cheaper, the md33s is also decent canalphone with a good amount of bass, but sound almost as good as the e2c plus some more treble power, which the e2c slightly lack.

Well, I definitely emphasize bass. I listen to a lot of rock and I like the sounds produced by the MDR-V150s. Maybe it would be better to go with some cheaper ones like the EX-71s. How well do they isolate though? The idea of being totally isolated really appeals to me, which I've heard the etymotics are really good at.

I asked before, but no one answered:

Which are better, the etymotics er-6, or the shure e2c?

I ride a noisy bus, so isolation is a must. Also I workout.
