I'm looking for good headphones in this price range that are conferable to wear. I really like the Sennheiser HD600 but hate the cheap design and lack of sound isolation.

thanks

If you think the HD600's design is bad, you'll be surprised by Denon's as their earcups tend to fall off after a while (but can be fixed easily).

What music do you usually listen to? Do you prefer a bass heavy can?

I'm looking for a good all-rounder since I listen to alot of movie soundtracks and hot 100 kind of music, but I kinda want more emphasis on orchestral soundtrack since I'm a music major.

Since your emphasis is orchestral music, the D2000 isn't an ideal choice given its V shaped FR graph and its bass is on the flabby side. IMO, the K501 is an ideal choice given its very wide soundstage and a very "right" tonality but it's an open can.

Generally, I don't think closed cans do well as as open ones for orchestral music save for the higher priced ones.

All I could find was the Denon AHD501K On-Ear Headphone which has awful reviews and way too cheap.

It's Akg K501 and it's already discontinued. The best way to find them is on the FS/FT subforum here on head-fi and usually go for $150. There's one that's going for $200 right now but it's definitely a bit too high. I wouldn't pay more than $170 shipped for them.

If you want closed cans because you are looking for isolation, DT-770 is a good choice. The Pro 80 version has more isolation but it probably leans too much on the bass side for your request for a well balanced can. The 2005 version of the DT-770 is very well balanced and it has pretty good isolation. The DT-48 are making a come back lately but I don't thing that if you go for a single pair of head phones you should go for the 48. Also, the DT-48 is not as comfortable as the 770.

thanks, I should probably go with the 80 version since I'm mostly gona use it with my MP3 player but which portable amp is good, cheap (don't wanna spend much for $140 headphones) and suitable for this one? Do I even need an amp for only 80 Ohm?

looking for portable? take a look at the ESW9.
it's a goodlooking-comfortable-goodsounding-portable headphone, there should be a few good impression threads about them (use the search option)
