Need something smaller than my DT150's for computer & bedside use. Something closed that can get knocked around, stuffed in a work bag, and is small enough that I can listen to them fairly comfortably while laying down (the DT150's aren't the best choice for that). No IEM's, though.

Right now the AKG K81DJ's and the Senn HD25SP's are leading the pack. Anything else out there that I'm missing? I'd be using funds from the sale of the DT150's to purchase these new cans, so I'd have about $135 to play with.

Sad to hear the DT150 are going. I'd take them myself if I needed a closed pair right now.

Regarding the question at hand, it seems to me an ES7 would be easier to lay down with than either of the options you mention.

edit: also, how about Faust2D's QP70? Dirt cheap, comfy, and small enough for laying down with, I think. I'd say they were nearly as good as an A900 the time I heard them, and definitely crush a K81 or HD25-sp, hands down.

K81DJ isn't particularly comfortable for long listening sessions, I had to give my ears a break after about 30 minutes. You may have to grab the Senn velour pads if you go that route.

i'd vote for the hd25sp, they are very durable and you can take them apart and get new parts if anything breaks. the sound is pretty good for the price too.

edit: remember to take out the foams, it sounds much much better.

The HD25sp is underrated, I think, but on the other hand I think the $100-$125 price spread for it is absurd. Should be closer to $55-70.

I haven't tried taking the foam discs out of mine.

Come to think of it, i could be talked into selling my pair relatively cheap. The good news is they come with a pair of velour pads. The bad news is that the cable is slightly hinky where the left-side wire attaches. The good news is that an HD650 cable (under $20 shipped) would be an excellent replacement if you don't need a 3.5mm plug on them.

Edit: hd25-ba aka concorde could be a good way to go, too, but these days can only be found used.

you can grab Equation Audio RP15mc ($69) to replace your K81dj...or try Ultrasone DJ1 if you like the beater sound that come out from K81dj alot...this cans are circumaural so you got more advantage on comfort, and not to mention DJ1 use coiled chord + still foldable to put inside a mini bag...

i think can get em about $169 or less...or you can try HFI450, much more cheaper than DJ1 i guess but dont sure about the beater one...

The Sony MDR-V6 meets your criteria too. Definitely beaters. Audio-Technica tends to not make headphones you can throw around, unless maybe we're talking the ES5.

Yeah, the V6/7506 keeps rearing it's ugly head. They're virtually unbreakable. I wish they didn't sound so harsh, but my sony mp3 player and my minidisc player both have a 5-band graphic eq section, so I could offset the harshness of the V6's with that.

As far as the ultrasone recommendations, if I had that kind of dough, I'd just buy a pair of HD25-1's. Are the Ultrasone's durable though? When I tried a couple different pairs in Sam Ash (can't remember which model numbers), they seemed to be made of some cheap feeling/looking purple plastic, but maybe it was that high impact stuff?

Those Equation Audio headphones look cool.... I may have to read up on them.

What's your summary of how they sound?
