Hey,

So I teach high school kids and need some good suggestions for bluetooth headphones for one of my students. What's out there in the "good for high school kids" price bracket? Something that will have good volume and have a fun signiture yet not be Beats...I'm trying to stear them away from Beats, haha. I brought in some of my headphones and let them listen to them the other day and sort of wowed them away from their apple buds, but I'm only good with wired cans and relatively clueless with wireless, let alone price friendly wireless.

Thanks!

I know two of the classic go-to headphones in the lower price bracket: Monoprice 8323 and the Koss Porta Pro have both recently been upgraded to offer bluetooth versions.

Over-ear or in-ear? If in, wireless or true? What do you think the budget is?
I'd say over ears, maybe on-ears.

Doesn't Philips make a Fidelio branded wireless on ear?

the M2bt...I heard good things. I remember seeing them on sale for decent prices last year...I just looked at Amazon and they were $167

Yeah, that's going to probably be too expensive...I think it's the wired version of those which is more along the lines of $50ish.

...what are your thoughts on suggesting something like the Fidelio M1 and a cheap bluetooth transmitter?

I think as a general guide I would recommend just going with headphones that are already bluetooth. I don't have a problem with the concept of adding a transmitter, but I would do that in the case where you already have headphones you really like and you want to make them bluetooth

I was looking at the M1 again and the detachable cable doesn't go into the cup, it dangle down a few inches...that could actually make it a good option for adding bluetooth.
the problem with adding bluetooth usually is that the receiver kinda hangs down or sticks out funny, but if the dangly part on the M1 is long enough you could loop it back up around the cup, so it kinda rests on the top of the pads, between your head and the headphone.
I just don't know if it hangs down enough to do that....

IMHO, the Status Audio CB-1 with a 3.5mm plug Bluetooth receiver would make a good cheap wireless option. The sound profile is on the fun side of neutral (m40x might have slightly better sq but CB-1 is more comfortable) and the receivers can be upgraded as higher quality standards come out.

Exactly what I was thinking...you could just loop it up and stick the receiver onto the ear cup with double sided tape or whatever, or just clip the receiver to your shirt collar. I think this might be the best idea overall.

I read a mod tutorial a while back for the Sony mdr 7506 where the guy lopped off the long sproingy cable and made it into a removeable cable setup, then looped the dangly part over the cup so the bluetooth dongle rested on the top of the cup (as i described) ...that's what made me think of it.
I did the same mod to my 7506 but haven't bothered with the bluetooth yet.
In all honesty, it leaves the option of wired listening, which is always better in terms of sq

The Bluetooth variant of the Monoprice 8323 go for around $25 + shipping and they are actually quite good for the price -- even have AptX. I had some briefly before gifting them to someone who needed BT headphones. The Marshall Major II wireless @Cruelhand Luke mentioned have received good reviews and they really do look good, I've had them in my "to buy" list for a while....

I saw a kid walking down the street in Monoprice headphones the other day, they look better than the originals, not so cheap looking. Also, if this highschooler wants headphones that pass the Millennial test, this was a Cal Poly kid, in trendy a.f. San Luis Obispo.
Do they have the same pads as the 8323? I hated the pads on mine. In fact it was those headphones that got me started on pad rolling.
If they are the old pads, I would say get them new pads asap .I painted mine, did a sock mod and gave them to my friends high school aged daughter.
