Of the cheaper amps (100-200 or so), which in your experience are good matches for Sennheiser 650s? The type of sound I like is a big immersive sound with clear details.

I know that cheap amps don't go well with these headphones blah blah blah, but I'm just looking for the best of the cheap options, the lesser of two (or many more probably) evils. So don't just say "DUDE YOU'RE WASTING YOUR LIFE."

Blimey, I've never seen anyone agonise so much over headphones in my life!

When you receive them, listen to them "vanilla" for a good while. With what you've got. Then take it from there.

Ask later, when you've learned what (if anything) you'd like to improve, and by which time you'll have a bit more money to spend if necessary.

I've got the Darkvoice 332, and if the 336 is anything like the 332 with the HD650's then it is the amp you'd want to get. You can probably find a 336 used for about 200 bucks, new it'll be 350 with shipping.

Well as you know, you aren't going to get the sound you want for the price. Your best bet is to camp the FS forum

I have Little Dot MK IV SE. It was good for some time, until arrived Isabellina HPA, and from then I can't listen to MK IV for more than 20 minutes.
As for starters Little tube's products are great.

I really like Corda Products. I see used Headfives and the such going for less than 200 regularly. My personal recommendation is the Headfive/Arietta/Swing.

I'll bump this guy up. Please, please, PLEASE don't just say "they'll never sound good without an expensive amp", if you feel that need just yell it at your monitor instead of typing it in and crushing me.

Buy a Headstage Arrow HE. You would be surprised how well this portable drives the HD 650's. Save up some money then and buy a good quality desktop to really drive them. I'm telling you the Arrow sounds pretty good with the HD 650 . JMO

Today I'd probably go for the Phenix G7. In that price range LD MKIII definitely wasn't able to make the HD650s 'sing' like they do with the bigger boys, so I guess it just leaves the Phenix for a possible candidate.

Used you could probably score a DV 336.

i have the HD600 and i used to pair it with the LD MKIII. you'll be surprised at how well it can make the HD600 sing. Also LD products and i think other tube amps too, go well with high impedance headphones like HD6XX and not with low impedance headphones like grado, which is one reason why i sold the LD MKIII.
