My favourite is Dr John's Gumbo.

I have other CDs by Eddie Boyd, Floyd Dixon, Pinetop Perkins, and Roosevelt Sykes, but find myself going back to Dr John the most. Having said that, I don't really have that many blues CDs led by a blues pianist (in proportion to CDs that feature guitar or harp on lead).

Yeah, I was thinking Professor Longhair also, but I don't have an album of just his piano playing. I love Crawfish Fiesta and Rock'n'Roll Gumbo, though. You might also search for the Huey "Piano" Smith disc Having A Good Time With..., which is a best-of. Dr. John can be amazing, but Fess and Huey are where he got his style.

You may want to check out some titles from Otis Spann and Professor Longhair. I can suggest Walkin' the Blues from Spann and Fess: The Professor Longhair Anthology for starters on Professor Longhair.

You could just click on the above pic of Champion Jack, it will take you to Amazon. The others might be found there as well.

You can also try Allmusic.com. They have some music samples as well as reviews that may give you more informed ideas for future purchases.

You might try:

Otis Span - Last Call - this is a live album
Pinetop Perkins - Live at Antone's or Live at 85
Ann Rabson - In A Family Way
Roosevelt Sykes - The Honeydripper - this is killer
Prof. Longhair and Dr. John are also favorites

Any Rod Piazza and The Mighty Flyers album that features Honey Piazza will have some nice blues boogie piano playing.
