Hey everyone
I am about to make my first upgrade from introductory headphones. I am upgrading from Skullcandy Crushers, with a driver powered with a AA battery. Absolute junk, hoax, do NOT get these they are just bleak and unbearable to listen to. Theres always a high pitched hiss and the highs are absolutely artificial sounding and tin like. The mids are almost none existent. The bass, shakes the w hole headphones, which is great but when you can't hear the other instruments because they are getting canceled out, that's bad.

So, a good introductory headphone if I do say so myself. Bass is very important in the music listen to

A good example would be:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0tKDV2g1IY (Listen to the first minute and a half two minutes)
It's trap. Chillstep. Stuff where bass mids and high re all equally important, but bass is one of the dominating factors. If that makes sense?
Other examples might be:
Bonobo?

More examples might be Bassnectar, Tycho, Nigel Standford (very spacy) Black Beatles, etc...

I like Trap, chillstep, jazz, classical, oldies, pretty much them all but what I am listening to the most of at the moment would be Trap, Glitchhop, etc...

So what headphones work best for these tastes? I mean, I don't want something that has real good bass, but mids and highs are artificial, have no sparkle, just aren't there. I wouldn't think Neutral would be the best listening because the bass would not have any power to it at all.

I was thinking mid range( 150-300$) would be a great place to upgrade to seeings how the crushers were $80, which falls under the introductory range.

I certainly looked at open headphones but, I would prefer something with a little more isolation. I am trying to isolate myself from the world around me.
I'd also like something with a carrying case because than they are protected, which would be something they'd need. Not that I'd abuse them.

What do you all think? Do you have any questions?
Thank-you for your time and suggestions, be looking for replies from me :)

Update: I forgot to mention that these aren't for me, and $300 would be my absolute max I could possibly go, unfortunantly :(

You should try the Sony MDR 1000X on your local brick and mortar store. They have prominent deep bass yet natural sounding mids and highs to my ears.

B&w P7s isolate well, great for the genres you like but also work amazing for all other genres. Doesn't need an external amp or dac. There's also a wireless version that is suppose to sound supposedly better.

You can settle for awhile with a <$300 then in a few month end up spending >$300 or you can spend now $400 and be happy for a coupke of years.
