Hi, I recently got a pair of M80s and I absolutley love them. The 45 degree angle connector is really nice but I find that these cables have a tendency to fray and I really dislike how they look when they start fraying, so I wanted to know if anyone can recommend a good quality cable (as good or better than the v-moda) that is compatible with the m80s and usable for portable use, hopefully short (4 feet or less) and npt fabric coated (or at least garanteed that it won't fray)

Thanks!

Build your own with Neutrik, Amphenol, Lunashops, or Oyaide plugs and Mogami 2893 cable.

Edit: reterminating a Monster Beats replacement cable wouldn't be a bad idea, although I don't know how fragile those are.  I've read M50 users recommending it amongst themselves.

Thanks! how hard is it to do a DIY cable? what tools do I need? I recently got out of school and sounds like an excellent summer project

DIY cable thread

Here's one of many youtube videos on soldering: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_NU2ruzyc4

You'll want to use 2893 cable without stripping it of its outer jacket.

Have fun!

Edit: 3.5mm plugs other than the ones that I mentioned will probably not work with the M80's recessed jack.

Thanks for the help, I'll indeed consider it, but what do you mean by the 3.5 mm plugs you mentioned? and around how much does a soldering tool cost?

You'll want a 45W-70W iron.  I could be wrong, find the help threads in that other forum.  I use an adjustable temperature iron, I recommend that you get one if you intend to do more DIY projects than this one.  The search is your friend.
If you've got a question or concern, it has probably already been asked and answered before.
No idea about prices outside of the US.

You need 3.5mm stereo TRS plugs of the kinds that I just mentioned for the M80.  Preview of the sweet Amphenol
Neutrik right-angled plug
Straight Neutrik
Oyaide
