ANyone ever done one? I have been reading about gold wire rca interconnects recently. Seems gold makes for an interesting sound. I do not know where one would source wires, but has anyone ever heard of it being done? Would it be a good idea?

Well, considering gold is less conductive than silver or copper, im thinking it would be a waste of a large amount of money. It would make a statement though, but not a positive one.

Gold is less conductive than silver or copper however it doesn't mean that it sounds inferior to silver or copper. Gold has a very unique sound and is best used in alloys. However, alone it is a very warm smooth sound with no grain such as you might find with copper. As said it is however costly. Last I checked it came it at about $14ft for 24awg wire.

Where are good sources for gold alloy wire?

Maybe make your own, just get a nice crucible and blow torch, and melt down a certain weight of silver and gold and blend them together. Then pour them into cylindrical dies and then load the ingot into an industrial wire pulling machine (everyone's got one, right?). Simple as that.

Maybe try to get some 24 karat gold wire from a jewelry supplier. You could use some Teflon tubes or maybe cotton as insulation.

Edit: This place is the best I could find after a quick search. Or you might be able to contact this guy to see if he can help you out.

If I want gold wire, I can buy from aural thrills. However, I'm looking for a source of the elusive gold-alloy wire.
