Obviously I can't bring any of my full sized amps (boohoo!) or my DACs (boohoo! I love my iPod, but it doesn't sound half as good - I wish I had built my HPDAC now) - but this is the headphone section, so this is about headphones.

I am bringing my Mini^3, my iPod and my Etymotics, but I am contemplating bringing a pair of full size phones with me. I think the obvious choice would be my HD595s, but I have lent these out to a friend because his are broken and we're waiting for a new set of drivers to come in so I can repair them for him. This leaves me with three options: HD650, Grado RS-1, AKG K701.

I'm going to be on the road for a week and I'll have to get quite a bit of work done in that time, and I always listen to music when I listen. I could just use my Etymotics, but they start to get uncomfortable after a while.

So what to do?

I always take the RS-1 along on trips. It works fine straight out of the iPod and (as you know) is always a fun listen. They're light and fold flat, too. Also, if anyone wants a listen along the way, the RS-1 usually knocks them dead. When I let people listen to the collection, the RS-1 always gets the strongest reactions.

Take some extra gas money, too!

If its a long road trip I generally bring full size cans as comfort is usually better and nicer sound vs my Denon's (however my Denon's have custom tips so comfort is a toss up now).
