In the United States lies the age of Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black. Let's go a bit underground shall we? Now we have approached the genre of house, which is not really far underground is it? Let's dig a bit deeper where we find trance: the home of Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, and all the other Xtreme lovers of massive, bloated, and disgusting saw synths. Nothing to see here, so let's go a bit deeper. We'll skip the classic trance masterpieces, techno, breaks (away from rap that is), and we are here. Psy and Goa trance. Greatest trance genre of the modern age in the US of A (imo). 
 
So, who has some good music to share? I personally like fast and dark goa/psy, but I also enjoy a bit of uplifting melodic stuff in there too.

My library of Psy and Goa is really small and I was hoping to expand. Does anybody have something good?

While there's already an electronic music thread, it is a bit broad when it comes to genres. Both Goa and Psy are quite interesting, and more complex than one could imagine at first (the good stuff, that is).
 
Unfortunately, many recent psytrance artists haven't been putting out that good of songs IMHO, but thankfully there are many who make up for that and take it a step beyond.

Hey there,
 
I've been into electronic music all my life, buying 'VA - Rave Now 5' as my first own cd at a record shop at the age of 11. I remember listening to the first song of the disc at the shop before buying and being blown away by the dark, brooding atmoshpere and the calm melody, which the track builds upon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW8KGu_QYuY). Then, about 4 years later I finally found 'Astral Projection' and the genre name 'Goa' on the internet and had been hooked ever since.
 
We've had 3 nice classic old school (-goa) recommendations and I've read the 'Infected Mushroom' name a few times so I'm wondering do really so little ppl listen to goa/psy trance here? I too adore the old school stuff and these are some of my favorites:

I love psy trance but I never really followed a particular act. I go to parties and festivals because I enjoy dancing to it with a crowd of people. Unlike most other parties, at psy trance events EVERYONE dances.
 
When listening at home I stream from http://psyradio.fm/
It's a great way to discover stuff you like and then look up the band.

Yeah, I found some threads with EDM, but they never focused on Psy and Goa. Unfortunately, those threads were made 8 or 9 years ago and even they only mention some slightly downtempo Psytrance.

Well, good thing I started this thread. That's a lot of good music I'm hearing! Yeah, some of the new-school stuff really isn't too great. Although once in a while, DI radio goes on a streak where I can download 3 or 4 songs in a row. I have yet to find another genre that can replicate this (at least for my library)

Infected Mushroom is great, but I found an artist from South Africa that I'm a big fan of... Protoculture. The track Impala is great!

Just listened to Impala. It's really good! I love when they add a bit of melody in there, although I really don't mind when the song is mostly random sounds because that's what makes it interesting.

I'm so new to Goa and Psytrance, I still can't exactly perceive what would be considered bad. I live in LA and I came to this genre after I broke away from Anthem Trance which I listened to after breaking away from Eurodance. All Psytrance is underground here, so it's almost like finding a massive amount of gold where nobody else has ever been. I guess I can distinguish some of the stuff that isn't too good to some extent.
 
I'm not sure how popular Psytrance is, but all I know is that before I stumbled across it in a guide I was reading, I have never heard such a sound in electronic music, and this is coming from an EDM fanatic. I'm assuming it's really underground here.
 
EDIT: I just read that Goa Trance is pretty much dead. It's just Psy out there now. What a shame, I love the sound of Goa trance.

Yup, 'Tales of the Inexpressible' is definitely an excellent album (it's their second one), as is 'Are You Shpongled' (their first one). Although it was made by Simon Posford, the man behind 'Hallucinogen' (my avatar is the second album of 'Hallucinogen', 'The Lone Deranger'), I wouldn't exactly consider it trance music, but in my book it's really trippy, beautiful electronic music.

Goa is near dead, but Psy is very much alive. Though, that doesn't mean what's currently around is of any quality.
