If I'm using the line-out from classic PCDP or, say, a NJB3 (with WAV files) for a source, does anyone think I would notice much of a difference between the Meta (Jung Multiloop/cmoy design) and the gilmore amp? I am planning to build a battery powered version of the Gilmore V2, but the battery life would be less than an hour and even then the size of the battery pack combined with the larger Gilmore circuit would be more cumbersome. Any opinions on whether even the best portable sources (even a D-311/D-303) would mask the audio too much to notice a difference.

I'd be using an HD600, ER4S, SR80, or maybe (at some point in the future) a CD3000 for headphones if that makes a difference. I suspect that I might not notice a difference with the SR80 or KSC35, but might with the HD600 or ER4s.

If portability is a must, I'd probably go with the Meta myself... less then an hours worth of battery life is rather ludicrous. If you decided to stick with a home unit, I'd highly recomend going with the gilmore though. I haven't yet tried it with any portable sources, however I have listened to some bad recordings and dispite the resolution of the amp, it was suprisingly forgiving. Drop Sean H a PM, I think he expereimented with a portable source and his v.2 (D-25s?).

The gilmore will eat your source for breakfest. It is too transparent to sound good out of a bad lineout.

Biggie.
