does anybody know anything about this "reference" amp that justin at headamp is coming out with?

it's going to cost $1500, and he's doing preorders for %25 off

i think it'll be a full rack size preamp (17x12x4)

2 1/4" jacks/1 XLR jack (neutrik combo jacks)

dont know much else though

Fliz,

It is supposed to be the uber, top-of-the-line, Gilmore offering available. The balanced version will be the best, but you also need a balanced source and cans to take advantage of it. The Premier will come with some other options and such as extras and niceties above and beyond the V2SE or any other version.

There should be a thread on his forum under the Premier title that has info on the amp from Justin himself. I suggested dual DACT volume controls so that two different cans can be used by two different people and provide separate volume controls for each. It would also provide easy and quick testing of two different cans by matching the volume and allowing for quick swaps of the cans.

Sorry, here's the link:

Per conversation with Justin, ref. version is equipped with goldpoint attenuator. Not talked about much, but according to some, one of the better pots around. ( different flavor from DACT all together. )

• goldpoint attenuator

I am not quite sure which one he's using, however.

I ordered a single ended referance amp
It will have some upgrades to it.
Blackgates, Internal silver vampire wire,a gain switch with 2 jacks 1 for reg phones other for Akg1000s. and yes the referance models use goldpoints over the dacts.
This is a Quote of what justin sent me.
( All the referance amps are dual box designs with captive power interconnect.
The referance headphone amps use half
rack width,2u(3.5" height) enclosures,
with the powersupply about 14" deep &
the depth of the amplifier vary between 8-12" depending on unbalanced or balanced version. The preamp version is a
full rack width,2u height enclosure,& can be built with eithier a matching full rack width power supply box or a half rack width power supply box.)
I didn't get the balanced unit due to having to modify my headphone cables, Not willing to do that.
As for pricing best to contact headamp.com.
Basicly he is offering 3 versions of the referance.
1- single ended
2- balanced version
3- preamp version

Last I knew Justin wasn't in favor of having detaills about the reference posted on public forums since it is still not in production...
