i wonder what new kind of digital-rights crap they can dream up this time.

the original gigabeat was a complete failure because you could only load MP3's using thier software, which encrypted the MP3's so you couldn't ever download them off the player. It also slowed the loading process down to USB1.1 speeds. and the original price was even more than iPod. losing combination!

We'll see won't we. Toshiba's site is rolling out in stages. They're currently claiming it's the No.1 MP3 player as of July 2003. End of July there will be another teaser.

It was all very well of course linking to the yajiuma site thinking you could Google it and the Toshiba site but I realised that the site will probably be Flash and graphics which can't be Googled. I'll keep an eye on it and provide choice translations.

I think it is time that we got our minds off DRM and did something to compete with the Koreans and the Americans. We make and design everything that goes into their gear anyway, there's absolutely no reason we can't whip their asses

this is a little off topic, but I was very very interested in what was right below the Gigabeat news on that page.

OMG woot another competitor! Competition means more choices in the future.

Ah, maybe Toshiba will do an okay job on this one, unless that 500 means only 500 folders, which is nothing to make a huge deal about (it's actually bad). Hopefully it means something else, too bad I can't read it.

But it's cool seeing more companies getting in on this anti-iPod thing. I can't wait to see the iRiver iHP-100/200, D&M Rio Karma (Project "Pearl"), this Toshiba G20SS Concept thing, and well, that's it for now on my list.

Man I wish they showed some pictures already.

Sounds good, thinner than an iPod!

Apple iPod = 0.62 in., 15.748 mm.
Toshiba G20SS = 0.52 in., 13 mm. (it even says less than)

Wow it looks like a true competitor in size to the iPod (along with the D&M Rio Karma).
