My father gave me an iM-490 for christmas. They sound nice.

However, getting them to stay in my ear comfortably, now that's a different matter. When I push them in following the instructions on the sticky, as soon as I let go I feel suction and loose bass completely, then it seemingly comes back with bass as pressure is relieved, but then they fall out..

Argh! I tried all 3 sizes of tips..

You may want to try wearing them with the cable over-the-ear. It's been a while since I had the iM-490 but I don't remember them being particularly hard to get fitted.

Tried it, no dice.

Now it seems some days the largest tips will work great, other days it won't. Then other days it seems the smaller tips will work.

I just can't create a damn seal. This is ticking me off, my ears are so weird.

open your mouth halfway and lean your head toward the other side when you put on the phones. (yes, it looks weird).
And when you are wearing them, try not to move your jaws much.
