Well, todays my birthday, and I got a few new vinyl related toys for it. From my parents a Music Hall MMF-5 and from myself a Lehman Black Cube phono pre.
Until the Black cube got here today, I had been using a tape loop on an old Scott reciever to my integrated amp to listen to my table, and have been somewhat less then impressed. The cart was brand new and all (not broken in), and it sounded OK once I got the table setup and all, but I really couldn't understand how people were prefering it to the new digital formats. The music seemed rounded on off on both ends, and somewhat muddy from my speaker setup, and further--it was a real annoyance to get up every 25 minutes or so to flip/change a disc.
Well... today the Black Cube got here, and ohh what a difference a day can make. The Music Hall is now feeding my amplifier beautful sounds. I'm listening to an Al Green albumn I had a CDR burn of right now, and it certaintly didn't sound like this! The sound is warm and inviting. The level of detail is greater then I'd anticipated, very little of the noisey popping and cracking I'd assosciated with vinyl as a kid spinning records at my Grandmothers house exist--this is a very nice source addition to my system. I'm really glad all is working out so far!
I'm going back to the music!
