I like my philips shp9500s but the people I game with hear things I never do in cod warzone with the steelseries Arctis 7 and sennheiser hd 600. footsteps, distant gunshots, and ambient sounds. I'm not really sure if I should look at non gaming headphones or get a gaming headset like the arctis 7. I use a really bad desktop mic right now so getting a headset would be good for others being able to hear me better. theres also the V-MODA BoomPro Microphone I could get. wireless would be cool but I don't need it.

one of the reasons I got the philips was they are open back because I live in florida and my room temp is high most of the year. I never feel hot with these.

What sources or DAC/amp do you plug your headphones into?
If PC, make and model of motherboard?

onboard sound, the motherboard is a MSI MAG B460 Torpedo. on my old motherboard I used a sound blasterX G1. I had issues with the software. I don't notice any differences between the two, so I stuck with onboard for the new motherboard.

So your motherboard uses the Realtek ALC1200 audio processor, decent on-board audio.
Me, I would get something like a Creative Labs AE-5 sound card first.
A lot of people seem fine using the Philips SHP9500 for FPS gaming.
What is your over all budget for your audio upgrade?

$150 maybe. do you think closed back headphones would be too hot? any thoughts on how the steelseries Arctis 7 would compare for music to my philips?

I usually stick to open headphones, so I would talk you into the same.
I really know zero about the Arctis 7.

Even the SHP9500 should absolutely give better results than 99% of "gaming" headphones, so your issue is likely more source/amplification, or software, not the headphones themselves.

I'm fairly sure the SHP9500 is considered a better headphone, for FPS gaming, then the Senn HD600.
I would suggest double checking your COD audio settings and the Realtek settings.
MSI updated the Realtek software just 10 days ago, might try updating them.
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/MAG-B460-TORPEDO#down-driver&Win10 64
If COD preprocesses headphone surround sound, then Realtek should be set for 2-channel and headphone output.
If COD only feed you a stereo (2.0) audio signal, then Realtek should be set for 2-channel and headphone output.
If COD feeds you a 5.1 (6-channel) audio signal, then use whatever headphone surround sound setting Realtek has.
There are lots of used ($50) Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z sound cards, sold on Ebay, I would take Creative Labs, over Realtek, for FPS gaming.

I can't find much info on what warzone uses. I just updated my driver, thanks.

Always check your Realtek onboard sound settings and set them to gaming, while just keeping the EQ settings themselves flat.

If you still want to upgrade and keep your onboard sound, then look at the HD58x with its 150 ohms drivers:

There should be a SRS sound control panel on the toolbar.
all I have is this. and theres no game setting. when I do a search for realtek on my pc, thats the only thing there is. its called realtek audio console

Apparently, MSI decided to complicate things by making their own proprietary driver and software for your Realtek onboard audio, so look at this video and especially look at 0:20 with the headphone sensitivity:

Also, check to see if you installed the right software with this (once again) MSI tutorial:

those settings at :20 I think only works on laptops. I dont have it in my software. and the nahimic software does not show my motherboard being supported.
