Hi, I was looking for a pair of headphones I could use for computer gaming and also some casual music listening. I hate the clicking of a mouse, that sound makes my eardrums go insane, hehe.

My budget would be up to $400. What could I get for that?

Lots of people will recommend the A900 or the A500 for gaming. I haven't used them myself, so I can't comment on how they sound in games. I have just bought a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770-80 from Guitar Center though, and will be firing up some CSS to test them out momentarily. I'll let you know how they sound.

I would reccomend getting one of these cans:

DT770/80, A900, HD595, HD600

and a decent amp.

280 pro over the other sennheisers for sure, and over the dt770 as well (much more expensive with bass overkill), I use the w100 so I would also echo the a900/a500 recs

well isolation is not that important, when playing games you cant really hear the mouse anyway.

Bass overkill may be welcomed in this case. I <3 bass for games

I'd also like a bit of help with this, while I love these SR225s the people sat next to me generally aren't such big fans, I need a can for portable listening (not bothered about size, isolation is more important), gaming, and a bit of music while I'm sat at my computer.

I'd love if someone could give me a head-to-head of the A900 and the DT770/80, with the main points of comparison being isolation (both ways), positioning (for CS), comfort, durability, and sound quality (I'm not afraid of bass, I'm not sure if the DT770s are slightly overhyped in this regard?) - basically, is it worth importing the A900s from the US when I can get the DT770s in the EU?

Hey also could you guys list brands when talking about headphones. Im kind of a noob to the cans. I have a nice pair of canalphones (Shure E5c) and a good stereo (by my standards) (Dynaudio Contour 3.0, REL Subwoofer, Krell amp, etc..not bad for a 14 year old

DT770s are made by Beyerdynamic, I think the only place the DT770-80s are commonly available in the US is at Guitar Center. ATH-A900s and A500s are made by Audio-Technica, you'll be wanting to go to www.audiocubes.com for those. Sennheiser make the HD280 pros and all other HD-series cans you may be recommended, they're widely available. AKG make the K271.

It sounds to me like you'd be very happy with a pair of DT770-80s ($200, people have been negotiating down to $150 on these at GC) and a Gilmore Lite for about $300 (less second-hand).

DT770-80 and an amp... PA2 for example. Maybe you can squeeze a used SR71 in your budget.

honestly, you do not need to spend that much for "gaming". but the closed a900s are probably the best for the job. if you get killed with it on, i wouldn't suspect the sound limiting your "skillz".

i think the a900s isolate pretty well.

i believe the A900 are more than sufficient enough to be used for gaming and casual music listening.

but with your budget, you could probably get both a dedicated music and gaming setup. A900 for games and HD580 for music.

if it's for gaming.. and assuming it won't be moved very much.. a speaker set would be more in order.

get the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s, they can really bump

but if you want OVERbearing bass in a speaker set.., the Logitech Z Series is known for that..
