WOw, last time I posted on here was 2002, was suprised to even find out that I was a member here already. Well I want to say that I don't want anything to do with these Grado SR80 headphones. THey caused me a lot of pain and suffering, LOL, for too many years. I think I may just get a seldge hammer and subject them to revengeful torture. I hate those head phones, would never recommend them to anyone. Just looking at those SR'80's causes me to cringe in pain. I think the GRADO SR'80's should be put in the encyclopedia under torture devices.

OK I've been doing some research on gaming headphones. SInce I don't want to spend a lot of money but want to get good headphones for gaming I think the A500's seem to be the best perforamce vs price headphone. I have a X-fi extreme music sound card.

First, I will use the headphones only for gaming, or at least 95% of the time for gaming.

Well the most important thing is that I need to have is good positional audio, bascially I need to know where the other players are in games like counter strike. Will the A500's do a good job with this? How will they do compared to the 770's and the rest of the competition?

Are the A500's comfortable for those 5+ Hours of gaming?

Should I maybe consider an open end headphone for gaming?

I found the A500's the ceapest for $89dollars, does this look like an OK place to buy and is this the right product? Just seems a lot cheaper then the rest of the competition.
Any other recommended sites for buying these headphones cheap?

Audiocubes is reported to be an excellent website for purchasing headphones, the A500's are excellent for gaming, and by all reviews extremely comfortable, even during long periods of time. Go for em!

from what I have heard the a500 is a great gaming phone. I would go for it.

Also if you hate your sr80 so much I guess i could do you a favor and take those horrible torture devices off you hands.

+1 more for the A500 if you plan on using them almost entirely for gaming... they should suffice!

I highly recommend audiocubes.com, they are amazing! Just bought the A500 for my sister for her b-day present. Shipping was $6 I believe, and shipped the next day from Japan. (Japan!!!!!!!!) I was thinking, the present would take 3 weeks or so to get here, and that it would arrive late for her b-day. 3 days later it was at my door! I've ordered from companies in the conus, and they have taken longer than audiocubes shipping from japan. The packaging was excellent, though the box was a tad banged up (to be expected, I suppose), but the headphones and the packaging was perfect.

Hope this helps you set aside your shoppers fear of Audiocubes, it is a great store to buy from! You can even put me down as a reference if you are kind enough, so I can get points!

I was a semi-pro gamer back in college, my two cents.

I absolutely love the Sony MDR-V6. They have the traditional "in your head" soundstage which while horrible for music is amazing for positional audio. My clanmates would notice a huge difference when I switched between my V6's and my SR-125's. I also prefer them to my HD600's for FPSes.

That being said, I never really looked into alternatives because of my limited budget. It just should be stated that for gaming positional audio and audio queues trump sound quality, which means that more musical headphones -- especially ones with unique soundstages -- might not be what you are looking for.

Will most certainly give you an advantage during competitive play since most gamers use cheap 5.1 headsets..with 22 drivers..

I've used my A500s for gaming a lot, and I absolutely love them for it. They are so comfortable and sound great for the price.

for gaming IMHO forget the Grados.

If you like AT go for them, they are good for that, but also worth look into some Senns.

Although, as I said, with those AT you go fine!
