Gaming Headhpones Question (amp or no, brand of cans? )

I currently have the AT900s I use for gaming. Though they sound good, i'm not hearing enough detail or low end sounds. I dont hear "footsteps" in FPS games like CSS, and the explosions dont have as much "boom." as i would have expected. My Gf's eggos seem to have more depth to them!

After reading the forums on gaming headphones, everyone recommend the DT770/80. Would this be a step up from the A900's in gaming? And would either of these cans benefit from amping whiling gaming? If so , what type/brand of amp?

Any other tips/advice is welcomed. Thanks in advance!

I once played a bit of Quake using some Koss PortaPros... the sawn-off shotgun sounded insane, heaps of kick, I blinked in reaction to the first time I fired hahahah
