As you can see from the answers above there are different ways of interpreting what a fun sound is. It all depends on what you like about sound, what music you listen to, and ultimately - what sounds fun for you.

It definitely sounds like Grado is the way to go for you. Personally I like both - Grado sound and bassy sound - depends on my mood and what music I'm listening to. This is why I own multiple headphones.

Definitely subjective, but I think of fun sound as physical sound- sound you can feel. Clear highs also help- which makes the RS-1's (perhaps all grados) and DT990's fun headphones.

On the other hand, I can certainly see how low impact, but airy detail and clarity could be fun as well. Thats why I am looking at venturing into stax land in the not so distant future.

Like many audio terms, it doesn't make any sense except in relation to it's opposite. In this case, it's fun vs. analytical. Try comparing a Grado and one of the Sony SAx000 series. They're kind of similar - bright and detailed with a shallow presentation - but one's fun and the other's analytical. Definitely one of the harder things to describe, you just have to hear it. For me, it seems related to PRaT (pace, rhythm and timing), but that's not the whole story.

I find my aluminum (and plastic, too!)Alessandros' to be a lot of fun with rock. I feel as though I'm in the recording studio with many of the performers due the more foreward presentation, but yet the more relaxed nature of these phones keeps my ears from getting tired too quickly.

They may not be for everyone; but they sure work for me!

I've taken it to mean a sound signature that is not entirely accurate, but pleasing anyway - 1st heard it used with UM2s whose bass reinforcement 'warms' the overall tone of the IEMs - to most in a good way, but not everyone likes the result...
