Full size cans that sound like the ER6i's?

Do they exist? I love the sound of my ER6i's with the Shure Black Olives (with stock tips they sound rather crappy...). I love the accuracy, the way the bass is there but not overpowering, the front-row sound but also the way instruments can appear outside your ears, nice forward mids. Everything just sounds so right.

The only thing I don't like is the way they hurt after half an hour of use... I think it's the pressure of the olives on my ear canal. Also, the fact that the body is small and slippery makes them quite hard to remove from my ears.

So is there a full size can that has the same sound but without the drawbacks of using IEM's? Closed or open, I don't care. I would prefer to keep it under $200, and also would prefer that they do not need an amp for use.

Grados and Alessandro's are out as they are far too bright and sound NOTHING like the ER6i's.

I had both the er6i and er4p. The er4's were more comfortable, at least I didn't have a headache after hour of use.
But still I think they're a little bit fatiguing... I miss them, though;]
And probably nothing sounds much like ety's as they do:d
cheers

Yeah thats true... But I don't think any IEM will suit me. They're good for about half an hour then it starts hurting. I have had them in for like 2 hours but after taking them out my ears hurt REAL bad.

I've got no trouble wearing my ER6 for long periods of time while out and about, but for some reason they bother me to wear them when listening at home. I don't know why.

I've not used the olives yet myself but I'm thinking I should. I've been using the old Shure gray flex sleeves instead, which definitely make it sound better and fit more comfortably, but the isolation is not the best. I've been trying to find a place that sells Shure tips locally and I have not had any kind of luck. D=

Try smaller black olives, if you can. I've not heard the Etys, but I do have a im716. From the descriptions I've read, I'd say the MB Quart QP85. Very detailed. Some people would call them lacking in bass, but they're great for me. They're among my favorite headphones.

I've been interested for a while to hear the ER4S, but have always found something else to buy

. I like the im716, but I can't get the small olives on them and I would be able to with the Etys. Small tips would fit my ears better I think, than the mediums.

I remember when I had an ER4S and K701 with me at the same time. My conclusion (even though I admittedly did not have proper amplification for the K701 at the time) that made me sell the K701 was: Why did I pay almost 3 times as much (at the time) for something that pretty much sounds the same as the ER4S?

Oh, I almost forgot,
I do own sony sa5000 which sounds to me like they were etymotic's big brother

The sound is just much more refined. But I would vote for k701 [I haven't heard them, though], especially taking its current price into consideration:]
And they are supposed to be close to etys...

if you can find a pair, the Koss A/250 is very much like a full size Ety, at least to my ears. Which probably isn't saying much about my ears

Oh, and it LOVES a beefy amp.

I've seen some of them on the FS forums for VERY cheap... I'll keep an eye out.

What about the lower SA series? Would they?

The ER4s would be PERFECT if it wasn't an IEM

So the K701's sound like ER4p, does that mean the K601's or k501's sound like the ER6i?

I got the smallest ones. MB Quart QP85? Never heard of them. Where can they be purchased?

Oh, I just realized that the QP85's need lots of amplification.

I'd rather not go down that route again. Same with the K701's.

So I guess I need to locate a pair of A250's. Unless anyone has anything else to add?

It's weird how there are others mentioning these similarities between the ER-4S and AKS, as I've been thinking the same for a long time now. It's always hard to compare one headphone's similarities to another, let alone an IEM to a full-size headphone, but of the three AKGs you listed, I will still say that I think the closest match from one of them to the ER-6i would be the K601.
