Might be a weird question but that's what I'm debtaing.

Because of the UE Triple.Fi 10 sale I have a pair of those on their way. Was planning on converting them to customs through Fisher hearing for ~$100 more giving me some very nice customs for (hopefully) <$250.

The thing is, since they are customs I won't probably use them at the gym where they would get more abuse so thinking I'm going to need to keep my cheaper IEMs.

Therefore the main use would be around the house or maybe traveling. I'm thinking for these limited times, maybe full size cans would be a better choice.

Don't think amping would be a problem as they would be fed through my Marantz receiver and CD player at home and would consider a portable amp for the rare time I needed some juice away from it.

Thoughts? Can I get comparable cans to the TF10s for $250ish? Thx.

Oh, I mainly listen to rock, classic and metal.

For the price range think that akg k701/2 would be better choice but they are not portable at all !
Better build quality ,SQ, soundstage and comfort but they do not isolate

Funny that you mention the K70x as I was thinking very hard on those.

Isolation is not a problem as by the time I wanted to use them, i.e. when the kids went to bed, they are upstairs across the house. I also wasn't thinking amping would be a problem as I am using a nice receiver, Marantz 7001, but maybe I do.

Other choices/thoughts were the 225i or something else. Again, I listen to mostly heavy metal (Tool, Metallica, Monster Magnet) with a smattering of classic rock (Thin Lizzy, Zep, Sabbath).

I suppose - I could do that.

My thought though was that having both would/could be redundant and wanted to know what the full-size guys thought. I was also thinking that dropping $600 into 3 set of headphones (I ordered a set of UE700s to replace my current gym IEMs) would be sorta crazy.
