Back in January I bought Sennheiser HD 600 cans and Schiit Magni 2 amp and Modi 2 DAC.  I find myself listening to music 3 or 4 nights a week for at least an hour.  I love the experience I'm having...  Now I'm becoming a little more discerning.  I'd like a bigger soundstage and a bit more detail so I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the Sennheiser HD 800 cans.  Question - is the Schiit Magni 2 amp and Modi 2 DAC setup enough to pull the potential out of these phones?

Thanks!!

You need to try them for yourself and see what you think. No one can make that decision for you.

I've experimented with so many amps that it's nothing short of shameful.  However, for me at least, four components really stand out.

Amps:
1.  Lehmann Black Cube Linear - https://www.lehmannaudio.com/headphone-amplifiers/home/linear.html
2.  Violectric V200 - http://violectric-usa.com/headphone-amplifiers/hpa-v200

Integrated DAC/Amps:
1.  Wyred4Sound mINT - https://wyred4sound.com/products/integrated-amps/mint
2.  Peachtree Audio iNova - http://www.peachtreeaudio.com/inova-amplifier-with-dac.html

Both of these integrated amps are relatively unique in that they have reasonably good headphone amps built into them.  I own both and they are quite different, but I probably listen to the Peachtree the most, as it's the core of my home office system.

The Lehmann amp is wonderful - it's beautifully driven any set of headphones I've ever plugged into it.  The Violectric has a punchiness to it, though it can tend to collapse the soundstage.  Of the four I've mentioned, the Violectric is the only one I returned.

I completely agree with Mr. Rick - you just have to experiment and find what sounds best to you.  The search is half the fun.  Enjoy and good searching.

khatch, Awesome info!  I really appreciate it.  I ordered the HD800's and a Lyr 2.  I just got the headphones last night and the Lyr 2 should arrive today.  Schiit has a 15 day return policy.  I also found out that I can demo the Lehmann Black Cube Linear at a store about 20 miles from my home.  That's why suggestions like yours are so helpful.  Thanks again!

I hope to have time to write something up by Tuesday.  The short answer is I have spent hours listening since Friday with a smile on my face.  My wife tried the 800's last night and said - well, you can never go back to the 600's....  Nice.
