After much deliberation (if you only knew how much I'm not joking about the "much" part
), I've decided that I need the cash more than I need the MZ-R50. This is widely considered to be the best all-around MiniDisc recorder ever -- it even has a true line-out jack! (and sounds great with a portable amp).

Specs and Info:
Minidisc Community: http://minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-R50.html

The Full Manual (including a very nice picture):

And here's an excerpt from an interview with a well-known MD repair expert (taken from the MD Community Page):

Minidisc Repairman Q&A #4

Question
David, In your original posting to Minidisc.org and in your responses to questions, you have mentioned several times that you feel the Sony MZ-R50 is the best portable recorder. Could you elaborate? Thanks, Lee

Answer Hi Lee, Good question, difficult answer. When one says something is the best it is very easy to see that it is from his own point of view. In this sense, what is the best for me may not be the best for you. I'll try to answer.

The best machine for anybody depends on what he is expecting from it. If you are looking for the smallest unit, it is not the case of the MZ-R50. The Sharp MD-MT831, Sony MZ-R55/70/90/91 and other MD's are smaller. If you care for long play time with the battery it is not the case of MZ-R50; the others mentioned are better. If you need a reliable MD, one that will not break easily, with relatively high volume, a machine that doesn't suffer from all kinds of problems, stable with 40 sec. antishock mechanism choose the MZ-R50. I repair all kind of MD's daily, it is the only machine that is brought for repair due to age (normal) or a dramatic event (falling into the sea...) and not because of 'funny' symptoms which show that the MD's were brought to the market unfinished, or because of small events that created large problems.

Mine is in great condition -- it has only a few tiny surface scratches if you look very closely. It's in perfect working condition, and I even still have the original box and accessories -- remote control, AC adapter, external battery pack, optical cable, analog cable, headphones (Sony MDR-A34 verticals) and owner's manual.

I'm also including:

* Extra pair of barely-used Koss KSC-50 headphones ($20 value)

* Ten (10) brand new, unopened blank MDs ($20-$25 value)

* Never-used case that holds the MZ-R50, battery pack, portable amp, a couple extra MDs, and earbuds! ($15 value)

Asking $200 for the package (MZ-R50, KSC-50, blank MDs, and case), or $185 for the package minus the KSC-50.

EDIT: I found the headphones, too! So, now, also included are the original headphones -- don't think they've even been used. And contrary to my earlier statements, they aren't really that bad. They're the Sony MDR-A34 "vertical in-ear" headphones.

Just for any potential buyers, I own a MZ-R50 and it is wonderful.

I bought mine three years ago and have had no problems with it (except a small spring in the disc eject system, which was repaired in warranty).

also want want to inform potential buyers about the mz-r50.

this is a great player/recorder. i've had mine since the day it came out. i've use it about everyday, and to this day i have yet to bring it in for any repairs. very reliable, extremely well built(i've dropped mine countless times, step on it, and been chewed by my dog). Whoever buys it should feel proud to be the lucky owner of a mz-r50.

Potential Buyer,
Get this mint r-50 when you can. It has excellent quality and should last you long long time. It has great line out and this thing is beautifully crafted. Oh, the body is magnesium...no cheapo plastic here. Good luck!!!

To be honest, I can't remember where I got it. I bought it a couple years ago to use with the MZ-R50, but then I got an E900, so I ended up not using my R50 for portable use, so the bag went unused. I probably got it at Fry's or Circuit City. The model number isn't listed on it, either

That said, it's funny how getting all of this together to sell it has made me want to keep it more
I've been playing around with the R50 this week using a TA and PortaPro, and it sounds very good -- better than my Panasonic 570, IMO.

The person who was going to buy this had to back out for personal reasons, so it is available again. If you emailed me in the past couple weeks and I told you it was sold... feel free to email me again

only wish i didn't need a PCDP w/ optical out to record MDs...

it's the same price as your package... =))

maybe we get a DVD Player so i may consider the R50, otherwise i'll have to spend my money on the D-EJ1000...

P.S. very very good unit, highly recommended...
