Hello!

I've just managed to use the Dolby Headphone DLL in foobar2000 and noticed that it brings a nice "crossfeed"-effect for stereo files.
I'm wondering if there are any surround audio files on the internet that I could try out with foobar (or another player, maybe Media Player Classic, VLC or something...).

My next idea was if you could "rip" DVDs like live music (in 5.1) convert them via Dolby Headphone to 2-channel files (something like binaural, right?) and listen to them like regular music files (or burn to CD).

Has anyone ever tried something like that? Thanks!

Some DVD players (both standalone hardware units and software on the PC) incorporate psychoacoustical tricks (like Dolby Headphone and SRS Tru-Surround do) when downmixing from surround to two-channel. I'm not sure how good the downmixing algorithms are with the ffdshow codecs, but those are free.

In any case, your best bet will be to find your own surround content, then use one of those methods to downmix the audio to 'fake surround.'

Yeah it works fine.
Rip the AC3/DTS from the dvd. You'll need the AC3/DTS plugin for Foobar2000.
Use Foobar2000 convert option, add the dolby headphone dsp, select your encoding preset and save. You'll have a 2 ch audio file that you can listen to on a portable and still have that dolby headphone sound.
You can find some dolby trailers online, just do a google search.

Yeah, it works now. The foobar plugin was missing. I've tested some files from the web now it's time to rip my own DVDs and try it out.
Thanks a lot!

Hm I still haven't figured out how to rip the audio contents of a DVD (AC3 or DTS 96/24) so that I have something like 6 wave files to play in foobar.
