Was cleaning up my folks garage and found the above TT, along with around 100 albums (vinyl ofc), mostly 70s and 80s music (and decent one at that). Instead of letting it all go to waste, I was thinking about maybe using them for a home setup. Also, along with it I found a Sherwood Optimum Digital Receiver S-2730CP, and a Technics sb-f20 set.

However, I have no clue at all about vinyl or TTs - so is this a good TT? Does it require any maintenance after 20 odd years of disuse? Also, since I only have an ath-ad700 headphone - will I see any difference with the TT+vinyl over ogg from my prelude x-fi? Lastly, are the receiver and techincs worth anything?

Thanks for taking the time to answer this,
Mash

What TT did you find?

I say hook it up and find out how it sounds.

Very nice find. Clean them up, put a fresh belt on the table and enjoy!!

I would recommend you keep the thorens and do a clean up of the records and start spiinning, provided you have a good cart and stylus.

TD160 & 160 Supers are great starter tables. If the bug really bites you, it takes well to arm upgrades -- the old Audioquest PT5 comes to mind. AQ platter-mat will make for a nice sonic upgrade on the cheap. Get a Mod Squad (or similar) junction box to use different IC's. These can be incredibly capable TT's for the money when tweaked just a bit.
