I've been considering getting my first tube amp recently and I vaguely remembered finding a box of tubes a few years back in one of mom's closets (My late father worked on radios in the Army in the early 60's). Sure enough, Dad's old box of tubes were still there in the closet. Lot's of the tubes are really small and I have no clue as to their audiophile value (8BH8, 4BZ6, 6HA5, and many more). I'm particularly interested in learning more about the larger tubes, Sylvania 6X5GT. Two of the 6X5GTs have an acceptance date of 1945 and another pair have a test date printed on the box as 1961. All of the 6X5GTs appear to be unused. I'm a total tube noob, and I was wondering if there are any current amps that will accept these 6X5GTs? I had been looking at the Little Dot II, Darkvoices, and maybe even a WooAudio 3 recently...

The 6x5gt is a full wave rectifier tube used in power supplies. I am not sure anyone is using this tube in any headphone amps.

Mapletree use the 6X5GT in their PS2 pre amp power supply. From memory when I stocked up for mine nos tubes were pretty common and cheap.

Put the tube names in google and do a search. My father-in-law had an old stereo cabinet, and I took all the tubes out. I used google to find out more about them. None of them were really worth anything, but it was fun doing the research

The 6X5GT is a rectifier tube; it helps turn AC into DC. They're used in amps, as well as radios and TV sets.

Instead of buying an amp, why not look into building one? Put up a list of your tubes and we can help point you in the right direction.
