Hey gang. Was looking around for reviews of cans I'm considering and came across this site. It's a retailer site, so take it with a grain of salt -- and no, I'm not site pimping. And it's also in Japanese. Anyways, I'm showing you because I was taken aback by the nice user review tool.

So, instructions are fairly straightforward. On that Page, click on the company of your choice (you need Japanese Language packs for some).

Japanese Brand Names for your reference:
ゼンハイザー = Sennheiser
Audio Technica
Panasonic

Other brands, which you guys probably won't care about, but just in case:
エレコム = Elecom
Greenhouse
Kenwood
Sanwa Supply
Sharp
Victor
Maxell
Logicool

Anyways, click brand name, click model and you're on the info page for said can. Next, there are probably 4 or 5 tabs along the top of the window the headphone is in. Usually the third is ユーザーレビュー = User Review. Click there.

Next, and this is where I think the functionality here is pretty nice, you'll look down under the first window with the can's picture and price to the user review graphs. The left one is a table:

The ユーザー投票平均 Column is the Average User Rating Column
Column is the Category Average Column. This way, you can compare what you're looking at with everything else on the site. The third column is descriptions of the different aspects being rated, and you guys should know what they mean anyways.

The Rows:
Design
Sound Quality, Treble
Sound Quality, Bass
Comfort, essentially
Isolation
Sound Leakage, high rating being less sound leaked.
携帯性 = Portability
Overall Rating. Actually reads 'Degree of Satisfaction'. This number does not appear to be an average or mean of the previous ratings.

Next, to the right there is a little diagram (what are these called? Diamond Graphs or something?) that graphs the different characteristics. The red line represents the average, so again it is easy to gauge a can's overall characteristics. The characteristic names correspond to the ones used in the graph.

Under that, you can see the individual users' reviews, though their in depth descriptions are in Japanese

.

Anyhow, I'm sure you will keep in mind that these are user reviews on a retail site, and that you'll approach them the same way as you usually would. I just thought it would be useful to present because I find the presentation of the reviews to be very well organized, and because there are reviews of some cans that still haven't had very much exposure over here. I guess, in summation, not necessarily the best information, but it's more info and well presented.

Hope you guys can make some good use of this.

Man ...I always have to repeat Katakana words like three times before I get the English equivalent. Forget Kanji. Pretty cool if we had a headphone etc. rating section in this format if that is what you are getting at...

well, I thought it might be useful as an added source of info for you guys, but I got to thinking that having something similar to this system here at headfi would be pretty boss, too.
