As a follow-up, this isn't working either.

It seems as though there is only about 2mm of clearance in there, so leaving the semi-open sleeve & conductor still prevents the cup from going in.

I tried removing it all, but it's basically impossible to get a clean cut. I'm going to have to order those other connectors and see what happens.

Did you read my reply to your question to me/try the solution I advised? (which said to PM @PETEREK)

The other SMC connector he is going to try is what I got recommended from PETEREK so there should be no cutting involved, works on TH-600 and TH-900, still waiting for TH-X00 to be shipped

I reached out to him via his etsy store but haven't heard back yet

I ordered a few of those yesterday.

OK, thanks, I sent him a PM.

Unrelated, I noticed that the mounting rings for the TH-X00 are about the same size (if not exactly the same size) as those of the my Hifiman HE-500s.

I wonder if it would be possible to mount the HE500 drivers on the Fostex frame to save weight.

Wouldn't it be easer to get a replacement headband and cups for the HE-400i/HE-560 and transplant the HE-500 in to them?

Well, just ordered the Lawton stage 1 DIY tuning kit. Will report back when I do it. The Ebony cups made the slight lack of control in the bass a bit more apparent on the THX00 after some listening.

That be about the only thing I could afford! Those cups are insanely priced for me, but I think the purple heart will be good enough, I hope the original pads will be fine too... I await what you think of the kit.

To be clear my ebony cups are E-MU cups, not Lawton cups.
