I think they're probably more like an open box offering. Units that were out of the box and on display but never used. I've seen used first gen th900s sell for about $600 while a brand new first gen th900 will still fetch $800

Thanks for the reply. I might try to buy these through the deals when given the chance. The units I posted on the screenshot are gone.

Did you also get a lawton tune up? I've kept my MK1 & MK2 in stock form and was interested in possibly getting a tuneup if it improved the sound.

Did you mod it from stock to level 3 or have you tried another level inbetween?

How would you describe the difference soundwise?

I have a more formal analysis in here somewhere, probably several years ago. I didnt find the highs a problem really with th900 but I did find the base boomy or messy occasionally depending on the electronic I was listening to. So I found a larger soundstage without the boomy bass possibly tamed the highs a bit, but really I remember soundstage improvement or difference. I did get the cable done first but no direct a/b some felt like me a subtle attenuation of detail and space others felt it more impactful. No doubt the pad, cup, dampening had the most audible difference while I found my cups that are larger and pads that are larger and shaped to be gorgeous some might find the red just fine as is...
if one loves the th900 sound, the pull outside of the cash necessary, is much like souping up a car, customization has benefits and costs, one can never go back, i Don’t wish too.

Up to now i only played around with new Dekoni pads, attenuation rings and several kind of dampening materials and amount.
It's interesting how such modifications affect the sound and i like to experiment with this.

Have the Lawton cups the same size as the stock ones or do they have a slighly bigger inner volume?

wider stage is the primary without the messy bass thump that i heard on some tracks for hip hop and electronic. Its been years so frankly i don't remember what's what anymore in my systems. its all synergy and i do recommend the lawton level 3 but also can understand those that feel if it aint broke why bother. I use hpa8 with my la900 for the bass extension or sub bass feel. It sounds like a marshall stack but its nicely balanced with all the V the th900 can bring.

Went ahead and ordered a unit from Amazon for approx 500 EURO. Probably getting scammed...

How much the headphone is made of plastic? Are the headphone sliders made of metal?

There are not many plastic parts visible, the silver slider bars are metal, the bushing is plastic.
