Thanks @Zojokkeli @ReaperZzZ
I auditioned them with Mojo, IFi micro iDSD and AQ Dragonfly red (my owned primary source). I found they are good synergy with iFi but I didn't like them pairing the Mojo.
For AQ DFR, I found it's quite lacking and may be too bright. I'll try to audition with schiit soon but sadly, schiit is quite hard to find.
Campfire Cascade are the other headphones under my radar. They are quite friendly to many music genres and also quite forgiving.
For Th 900, They just have many wow factors and I just like their exciting V-shape signature.
At first, I slightly lean forward Cascade because they are more affordable but th900mk1 price is significantly dropped after clearance sales so now their price is slightly lower than Cascade.

They definitely have an awesome "wow factor" :) I haven't heard the Cascades to offer a comparison unfortunately.

Another benefit of the iFi is I can go out walking with them and have a one man rave. As I've got the mk2 I had a shorter cable made for that purpose

Hello, fellow th900 headfier
I'm looking forward to purchase first hifi can. Th900 are among heaphones under my radar. I just notice clearance sales at local shop so Th900mk1 are considered very good price. I have a few questions to ask:
1. the sound signature of mk1 and mk2 is the same?
2 Only major difference of mk1 and mk2 is detachable cable? Is there any other minor difference to note?
3 Any recommended budget level sources (dac-amp, DAP under 400$) for th900?

Any recommendation are appreciated. Sorry, if these are too frequently asked.
3 I would recommend you to give FiiO X7 (1st with AM3 or 2nd) a try. I am happy with this combo for quite a while now. Not even looking for something better. And that means something coming from a 30 years long Hifi enthusiast.

@ReaperZzZ That's quite a dilemma. I also want headphone for portable use too but I just like th900 which come with lengthy 3m hard-wire cable.
Cascade seem to be better on this regard with their 1.2m cable. If I finally manage to purchase th900, may be I should recable them in future.

@K400Lover Thanks for your kind words. Is Fiio Q5 comparable to X7? Both of them have very identical specification but the Q5 is about half price of X7. Anyway, I'll add both X7 and Q5 to my list.

My other concern is about their hinge. Are they durable enough? I found they are quite the weakest point of th900.

Since this design was firstly introduced with the Denon's you might best look for people complaining about those hinges.
I have a TH900 blue and THx00 PH and there is a difference between the overall feel of the headband and the hinges IMO (in favour of the TH900).

I have not compared Q5 to X7, but I bought X7+AM3 used for around $400. There is nothing wrong with buying used ones. Some people hated the GUI. Good for me. I have several used ones :)

1. Correct
2. Correct, no minor differences
3. IFi Micro Black Label gets my big reccomendation. A lot of people like Chord Mojo but i found it boring and analytical which really doesn't match the sound signature of the th900

3. Fostex's own HPA4BL dac/amp is an often over-looked but excellent product for the price.

Does anyone have a good case recommendation for the th-900s other than a Pelican storm? I found this on Amazon, but it doesn't have the best ratings.

I am looking for something to make the th-900s more portable as well as a daily storage option.

Is there any frequency chart compare of red, green, blue
Or is it just the colour?

Fostex th900 and Fostex th900 Mk2 have same frequency chart

So whats the verdict on the most comfrtable pad that doesnt change the soundstage or bass in the th900
All pads change something, also no concensus has been reached on a "best" pad for your exact request as to many variables factor into an individuals perceived level of comfort. The most popular choices seem to be Dekoni, ZMF, Lawton, or Fostex angled pads. I personally liked the Voce pads from Mr. Speakers. Get out their & start buying pads to see what works best for you.
