Just got this rug pad in: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006EK4I80?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

This is what HD800 modders use to tame the treble a bit. It does a great job, better than the Con-Tact that I also bought.

Just pull your ear pads off, cut them into a circle (~45mm), and put the circles in front of the driver grill.

It smooths things out just a touch where the treble is normally a little hot for me. Enough that I'm back to hoping someone grabs my DX1000 so I can hang onto these TH600s.

Here is a question for you guys, can these be driven properly with the cayin c5 or the fiio e12 portable amps

Don't think you will have any issue with either.  My Fiio E17 drives them great and even my Nexus 5 phone can sufficiently drive them. The TH-600 are very efficient headphones as was the Denon predecessors.

No problemo. C5 powered my LCD 2.1s at volume point 5 on high gain. This headphone is relatively hard to drive in the planars territory, HE-6 being the hardest to drive.
600 will be soooo easy and that amp is a little gem for price-to-SQ.

I'm using a Fiio X3 which works great so I would say with the additional amps it would be slightly better.  With that said, they still sound better on the home system with better equipment in the chain IMO.

Not to call you out or anything but my impressions on hearing the TH-900 and TH-600 back to back on the same setup had the highs of the TH-900 smoother and more extended than the TH-600.  Also, I tried a second TH-900 and it was very similar to the first, could you have had a defective TH-900?  Also, everyone hears differently so that is another possibility as to different impressions from different people.

My impressions of the TH600 and TH900 are almost identical to yours. I spent several hours comparing both before going for the TH600. Yes, I could hear the improvement in the TH900 - slightly airier, slightly smoother more extended top end, slightly better imaging but in the end these improvements were subtle and not easily noticeable except in a direct A/B comparison. This was using classical music exclusively during the audition. I then figured that for a subjective 5% improvement overall on the TH600 (and that is only about as much as I felt the improvement was) and with the TH900 being close to double the price, they simply were not worth dramatically blowing the budget on. Furthermore, even if my budget had extend to the TH900, I wouldn't have got them anyway, because I object to the high gloss finish of those earcups as a matter of principal. I think the chances of them remaining in cosmetically mint condition after daily use over a period of years is next to nil, even when used only at home and carefully handled and housed on a stand. The only way they would stay looking new is to never wear them and put them in a sealed glass cabinet!

I just got the TH-600, paired with the Mav-Audio Tubemagic D1 Plus. Do you guys think it's a good pairing or should I purchase a new DAC/AMP?

Currently, I'm comparing it with the Fidelio X2, and I'm not 100% justifying the cost of these things. Any thoughts?

Edit: I do like the sound, but it's not mind blowing. I wonder if I should purchase the TH-900 instead...
