I'm really impressed with the fact that this site has 58,000 registrations, and I was wondering if anyone here knew about comparable sizes of other forums, or what the average size of a big forum like this is.

this community is a lot smaller than you think. most people register, look around a bit, and then never come back.

Half that number is made up of jahn's posting team.

Couple years ago I used to be a member on forums with only 800 people tops. I go back to one of my old forums and it was at like 2000.

I thought that was HUGE, and one of the biggest I have ever been apart of, or seen.

Then I find places big like head-fi and they pale in comparison.

but 8789495 members!?!?!?

wow!

I personally like the smaller forums as what ever topic you went into, you could count on several familiar faces, if not everyone there.

But then again it wouldn't be as super active like head-fi.

I think head-fi is a perfect size (good combination of active memebrs and familiar faces). 50,000+ members seems like a lot, but it's the active ones that make this place what it is.

I know Off-Topic is a lot bigger, that place is horrible. You get ZERO respect unless you pay up and donate.
