Hi headfiends, it's just a boring night.

Just listening to DJ Shadow's "Midnight in a Perfect World"

Ok let's get the monkey buisness outta here.

For those who know DJ Shadow, (i guess not many of you know him)

What do you think is the best cans for listening to this guy's songs?

(for about at sub-200 range)

You know what his style is like: electronica based on hiphop,

sometimes referred to as triphop.... If you haven't listened to his

debut album "Entroducing" you better check it out!

I'm looking forward to get to know some new DJ Shadow fans! I

myself personally am one...

I have the MDR7506 and those can handle bass pretty well (although earlier today I was listening to Face B by Isolee fairly loudly and I heard a little bit of distortion).

I don't have too much experience with sub two hundred dollar headphones though. I have heard that the MS1 is pretty incredible.

Good luck.

DJ Shadow is definitely some great music. I would say the best $200 headphones for him would be the Grado Sr225s -- they're upfront, fun, and sound great with his brand of electronic music.

Heh,

DJ Shadow is cool.... i like alot of acid jazz/weird tekno stuff in general.

There aren't any DJ Shadow headphones.

Knowing that i like this kind of stuff, and generally listen to it 50% of my coding time while not listening to classic rock, i defer you to my headphones for ideas.

When it comes to hip hop/electronica and related genres, my Beyerdynamic DT770/80 Pros will be my main can. Just got them very recently, but I can't imagine listening to this kind of music without them now. I don't find the highs to be piercing/bright in the slightest, and I'm really sensitive to harsh sounds up top. Bass to die for, as everyone knows...sometimes it's a little overwhelming at first, but then after listening for a few minutes you lose yourself in the music and just groove with the beat. These headphones do just that: groove. I'm listening to some DJ Shadow as we speak, and it sounds mighty pleasing to the ears with the Beyer DT770/80s...can't see listening to him with either my HD650s or RS-1s or even my other Beyers when I can use these headphones. They can be had for under $200 at Guitar Center in the US, apparently. Since you live in France, your only option really is to buy them used unless you can find another source (I couldn't...I bought mine used).

And wouldn't you know it:

where can you still find the 770 80ohm version? all i ever find is the higher ohm versions.

If the SR225s are anything like my RS-1s (which I presume they are), they aren't really suited for hip hop/electronica/trip hop and other music where the emphasis is on the bass/is bass heavy. The bass just doesn't go deep enough; the bass is fast and punchy, but it just feels really underwhelming for those kinds of music. Just my opinion, of course.

Guitar Center. Or used here on the forums. That's all I managed to find, anyway.

Wow you must serious want a lot of bass...PS-1's then are the only answer.

Hah, what can I say; I'm a basshead at heart. I love my HD650s and RS-1s to death, but listen to them with only certain kinds of music. I simply prefer the DT770 for hip hop (about half of my cd collection is hip hop...most of it crap though, bought when I was growing up). The DT770 has too much of that almost overwhelming bass for my liking when it comes to listening to rock, soul, and the other kinds of music I enjoy (that's where my other headphones come in), but they seem to go hand in hand with hip hop.

I think Grados/Alessandros can sound great with hip hop and elctronic music. But I agree with you. They're far from the best.

If your handle is any indication, you know what you're talking about.

I agree, Grados are great cans, but IMO, there are much better choices for Electronica and Hip Hop. DJ Shadow sounds great on Beyers. The soundstage and dark presentation really brings home the flava of hip hop inspired music.
